Low Fps with somewhat of a high end computer

Recommended Posts

I don't really know if this is a good system for dayz mod or not but I think it is and I haven't really been getting the frames I thought I would be getting from my system.

Computer Specs:

GFX: Nvidia 780 DirectCU 2 OC - 3GB GDDR5

OS: Windows 8.1

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

Processor: AMD FX 8320 3.5 Ghz Turbo 4.0 Ghz

RAM: 8GB of RAM

HDD: 1TB Toshiba

PSU: 600w Corsair CX600

I recently upgraded from an MSI Nvidia 650 1gb to the 780 and I still get around the same fps and I don't really know why. I've seen the posts that say Arma is poorly optimized and DayZ is still buggey but I would think my CPU and GPU would be able to overcome that and atleast achieve somewhere around 50-60 FPS in almost everysingle server ( I usually max around 30-40 fps in some servers and 60 in a select few). I have read numerous forums about turning vsync off and playing with the ingame Video settings but that only gets me about 3-4 fps increase. I have also went into the arma folders and switched the maxframesahead setting to 1 and also the other setting to 1 but I don't really notice any sort of fps increase there. I have also done the nvidia control panel settings, perfer max performance and all other options that I have read on but still only achieve the fps ranges I mentioned earlier. The same can also be said for DayZ SA I only really max around 40 frames even tho I use the lower end settings.

In mod it depends very much about servers. I got 560 SE and intel i5 3450, 8gb ram and so on, and i get 60 fps with high/ultra settings in some servers and on some only 20.

Noticed you didnt list a MoBo it could be the performance connection between that and your cpu. I'm not 100% on this but pretty certain that BI Studios engines are optimized for Intel components. Also windows 8...yuck. I've ran the mod and now the standalone on an SSD so I cant speak on harddrives and how they perform on the game, but much like Kajo up there it could just be the luck of the draw for you, tweeking your settings on ambient occlusion and filtering could help but not much. Try turning everything but vsync and one by one turn on features and up graphics to see if maybe you can pinpoint the one setting that drops frames.  Also in the tales of the mod the rendering halo was a mass fuck stick for players causing lag issues, weird graphic spikes on screen, and even game freezes, thing is until BI Studios decides they need to borrow ideas from Valves engine makers or Bethesdas engine, we are gonna suffer a long process of trial and error from them and all their games. It's been this way since Operation Flashpoint and Cold War assault.
