A tale to tell the grandchildren: Bambi vs. Angry people

Recommended Posts

A series of events just happened to me, and in the end it turned out so awesome that I felt the urge to tell it to any and all on this fine forum.

Start scenario: I am in elektro, I have basic gear and a blaze double rifle.

I was in an elektro pvp server chilling around when eventually I got struck by one zombie too many and bled to death. To my relief I spawned on the coast of Elektro. I ran to the place I died and sure enough, my body was there. I am super happy, eat and drink up and walk out. Ten seconds later I get a headshot from an m4.

Sure enough, I spawn in Elektro yet again. I run to the place I then died to see if I could grab my blaze and take revenge. I see my body and the people that killed me are a bit away from it. I run around a building to loot it when another player appears from behind somewhere and start shooting at me. He misses, I run inside a building: No message recieved. I log in to a new server where my friend was on and find that I lost the blaze and backpack I had looted seconds earlier. I felt deep grief about my awesome Blaze, but hey, atleast I was still in Elektro. I start looting the first firestation: nothing but a fire axe

Police station: nothing

Then it's time for the second firestation. I find an Amphibia S with a single bullet in it. I didn't have any gun yet so figured why not just in case. Then, I hear reloading. A lot. Oh no! Someone logged in and he has atleast two guns. I take my newfound .22 pistol and walk up. I see someone that represents an American Navy SEAL looking out the window. I think he wasn't loaded yet because he didn't notice me. I shot him once in the face with my only bullet and he stood still yet. I take out my axe.

My inner viking rage appears and I find myself hacking him to several hundred pieces with my mighty weapon. Eventually he falls down.

I was extremely happy: suddenly I had military gear.

A lot of it was ruined thanks to my axe-rampage, but I was able to get a fnx with mags and optics, a loaded sks. I go back down with the sks in my hand. I walk trough the back door and terror struck my heart. I saw two people:

- A military-cowboy hybrid

- A bambi with no clothes at all.

It's obvious that it was the military guy from just before and a friend. I panic and unload my SKS on them, killing them both (they must be pretty bad shots) I couldn't believe my luck: the cowboy had a mosin with long range scope and tons of bullets, which I gladly took. I also got a magnum with some bullets.

I play around with my inventory for a bit, removing all ruined items and stuff. Suddenly, another bambi appears trough the door, his only intent was to kill me. I run all the way up the tower and grab my magnum. He came up moments later. I was waiting above the stairs and headshotted him. Anxious, I go back down again only to find another familiar face. I assume, at least, that it was the other guy I also killed. He had taken the sks from the ground that I left there, stupid me left bullets in it. I unload my magnum on him and he drops down, one last time. In fear of them respawning nearby again, I run out of Elektro and into the hills, where I rearrange my inventory. I started as a bambi, now I have almost full military clothing, two good handguns and a mosin with LRS.

Elektro, you're amazing.

No, i do not. I attempt to keep my character alive and play like i would in a zombie scenario. You wouldn't shoot that guy without talking to him in a real life situation.

That is true. But I know for a fact that he would have killed me, had I not taken advantage of his logging in. This I am doing exactly as you: keeping my character alive.

I do that and I actually have a good time. Found a new town that isn't on the map yet even far, far away from the psychopaths on the coast. I spend my nights in a tool shed fondling my sawed off, next to a gas lamp while reading Anne Karenina.

I love this game.

What you are describing is actually a really "valid" (for lack of a better word) playstyle. I was referring to a lot of the people on hardcore servers who walk trough the woods forever, then point their shotgun at the edge of a town for 2 hours to make absolutely sure no one is there, and then get killed anyway.

Well, getting killed is a risk we all take. Even though I mostly patrol the northern highway, I still make regular expeditions into airfields and whatnot to take a looksee at whats going on from 1000m away with my mosin.

I guess you're right though, playing like this just delays the inevitable and just makes dying that much more painful with every hour spent. But, its a rush while it lasts.

I love these people; "I'm so good at the game look at me my character has been alive for 3 months because I hide on empty servers next to a lake in the middle of the woods surviving off berries because actually I'm terrible at the game and get killed by unarmed people when I have a machine gun".
