To the guy I killed just south of the NE Airfield.

I'm not judging, but saying you are friendly - then advancing on a player who isn't drawing their gun, then killing their unresponsive character...well, it's not friendly... That's the only point I'll make - you had LOTS of other options but you KOS - no judging, just a fact....

Agreed.  Killing someone because you couldn't make contact with them, and you don't want to leave them to possibly shoot you in the future isn't 'friendly'.  I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing, however I don't necessarily call myself a friendly player.

There is a difference between being unfriendly and placing your own survival as top priority over a stranger in the apocalypse.

No buddy thats your OPINION..

You do know the difference between a opinion and fact right?

And how exactly are you not judging him when he says hes a friendly and you judge his actions and call him a kos'er?

That guy is friendly, hes just not a complete moron who would turn his back on a fully geared player at an airfield....

Op made the right call, he gave enough warning, most probably, the guy was afk, i dont think he was logging out, op gave several and was able to loot the body after... Most probably the guy got an important call or had to pee really bad.

I got one ques tho, did you kill him? Coz the sks isnt a one shot kill, specially if hes all decked out and healthy... Or did you leave him unconscious?

This isn't a fact. This is opinion. KOS stands for Kill on Sight. No questions, no warning. You see another player, you shoot. Simple.

I saw another player, didn't fire, but drew on him. I attempted to make contact, no reply.

At that point the combination of variables skyrockets. They can be logging, they can be lagging, they can be sitting still as not to startle me. They didn't have their gun drawn, so any attempt to do so would be seen by me as hostile, and I would most likely fire. I told them I was friendly, but I will shoot if they draw. They could be on TS or Mumble with an entire OUTFIT of guys (I play on a full hardcore server) who are taking positions in the airfield. Judging by his gear, he was NOT a new player, in fact he was either a hacker, or someone who has been alive for weeks. Which means he's not a stupid player, and would probably shoot me in the back if I let him.

There was no communication from a threatening player. I don't know one way or the other if that's true, but in DayZ, there are more threats up north than friends. So I took no chances.

Nothing is as black and white as you make it, this game is about the shades in between, and how we interpret them.

I would most likely have shot you in the face - I never park in a shed with my weapon down if I ever park in a shed - and I tend to be a little jumpy around other players so its a good thing you didn't find me in that shed else you'd likely be dead now. for the record if I find myself in or near a hotspot in the game I always leave it far behind before pausing for much of anything.

Pew pew pew! You proved my point. Don't sit in a shed, even if you're AFK. You wouldn't, I wouldn't. Neither should he have.

It's not friendly, but it's not KOS or Banditry either. It's leaving nothing to chance, which I think constitute survival. I offered an olive branch, no reply, better safe than sorry.

ahh yes this whole thread is just another reason why I avoid all other players like the plague.

But... I'm Friendly...

We agree to violently disagree. You entered the shed after spotting his nonresponsive character. Was he setting up an ambush in a non-loot spawning location as obscure as a shed? You could have moved on, you chose not to and you escalated the situation. I believe that's quite the opposite of what MOST players would call 'friendly'. Fact enough for me anyway... Again, no judging - your option to play as you like - bit don't post your story here and get defensive for obvious observations of others...

If I remember correctly...

Headshot, he collapsed and bled. Checked pulse, dead, warm body. Looted. GTFO.

Not being defensive in the slightest, and I can see your point completely. I wish I hard recorded it, so it was clearer.

When I came across the shed, I stepped out in front of it, and saw a character crouching, looking straight at me. I immediately drew, and said "Friendly!"

Now... that's not KOS, that's me trying to show that I can kill you, but I haven't, and I'm open to dialogue.

No reply, checked again, no reply.

At this point I'm in the shed with him, doors closed, I don't know if he went AFK and his buddies left him to go to the airfield. Again, this wasn't a guy with a t-shirt and a baseball cap on. This was a fully decked out player with military gear. I asked for communication, didn't get it.

If I would have left him, and been shot in the back, and posted this story, I would have received a bunch of "Welcome to DAYZ breh."

I've played DayZ long enough to know that if I am to offer peace, and it's either not accepted, or not returned, it's assumed war.

You assume judging had anything to do with my comment? I could care less if he kills on site, tortures the guy, or makes him a martini. I just know what 'friendly' means - and it's not shooting an unresponsive, non-threatening player in his hidey hole. Rage on chewy, rage on....

I get you didn't kill purely on site and context is probably not clear as 'I wasn't there'. Unnerving regardless, stumbling on someone when you least expect it. We do what we do in the apocalypse....

No you KNOW what your version of friendly means and thats it.....

A fully geared player hiding in a shed at an airfield who makes no response isnt a threat?

Are you being deliberately ignorant just to prove your point?

I think you have a crush - move along, I believe my point is well understood by most in this thread. Why don't you occupy your time by looking for that shed at the airfield... We'll wait...

I love it...

Everytime you call out one of these elitist "this is how you play" people on the forums thier only response is to stick thier fingers in thier ears and yell soem pithy insults...

I believe you started with insults. I also believe I clearly stated that I don't care how anyone plays. It's a sandbox, knock yourselves out. I don't think you'd get my point as you aren't a person I'd expect to have a clear understanding of 'friendly' as the word is defined.... Elitist? You CLEARLY don't know me...

When did I insult you? Or is calling you out on your  "facts" insulting to you?

Where exactly has this been defined in relation to the game?

Did the developers make rules as to what constitutes being friendly?

Is there a dictionary defintion I missed that explains in a zombie apocalypse what is defined as a friendly action?

Who gets to make the call on what is friendly and what is not? You?

Elitist? You CLEARLY don't know me...

Slapping arbitrary Labels on people in this game is very Elitist...

True I dont know you, but you dont seem like the type of person who openly accepts people based on your "facts" so how could I get to know you?

Chewy would like to get to know you though....

Lol, cmon! Most of you would do the same as op! And you know it. And when op advanced with his gun drawn against the unresponsive player, he didnt escalate the situation, he controlled it. It would have been pretty stupid if he stayed out in the open doing the friendly dance infront of a unresponsive kitted player. One thing i learned about this game is, if you communicate with someone, and they dont answer or type to you, after you declared yourself friendly.... Thats reason enough to shoot... Because they could be talking on ts....

The guy might have gotten that 300 sec timer when you log in...

Then let's do that as I'm being misunderstood here. I didn't label the OP friendly, bandit, or otherwise. I don't believe there is a line there - which is what makes the game interesting to me personally. I'm a fan of the genre and desperate people do different things based on personal circumstances. As example, I'm opposed to 'skins' in game categorizing individuals. I was just pointing out to the OP that he said he was friendly (self declaration, not me) and then did something that isn't perceived by most players as friendly. It can be a tactic - it can be an intent unfulfilled - it can be a change of intent after the fact (look at that loot!) - it was an observation, not a label. I'm just not sure why you insist on drawing conclusions that I'm not trying to make. My point around insults starts where you inferred that only a moron wouldn't have shot - maybe that's a bad inference in my part. Regardless - this could easily be settled over a beer, or rotten kiwi hooch, at an undisclosed woodland campfire when they get the patch for that,..
