2 major issues restricting the alpha of it's potential.

Recommended Posts

First off, before I get into my rant, I will say the core of the game is incredily fun, however a few bad development calls are restricting players from having fun in the alpha. Remember, no fun = players won't be testing the alpha.

Now onto the rant. 2 huge issues come to mind, which really restrict players from having fun with the current model of the game.

1) Loot not respawning. I know this has been addressed, many times, but my biggest issue with this, is the implementation of the time penalty for changing servers (varying from a few seconds, up to 5 minutes depending how long you stayed in the current server). The time penalty was put in to try to counter combat loggers, however, you have to realize, more often than not, players were simply joining new servers to find loot, seeing as how loot isn't respawning unless a server restarts. Have you tried playing on a server where mostly everything has been looted already? It's dreadful. There is absolutely no reason why the time penalty for changing server was implemented without fixing loot respawning first. In fact, fixing loot respawn should be 1 of the top priorities to fix, and should have been already fixed. The whole point of an alpha is to get players testing the game out, you're going to have a real tough time keeping the interest of players in servers emptied of loot.

2) The only big issue I have with the game in it's current state, is where loot is located. Yes, I agree there are areas which should always have the best and "desired" loot, M4s, gun attachments, etc., such as military bases, airports, etc., strictly by the nature of those areas. However, there should be a sense of randomization of where loot spawns also. In the current state, even tho the game map is huge in proportion, very little of it is actually used by a vast majority of the player population. For the  most part, players are simply rushing to areas and buildings which are known to have good loot, such as the already said military bases and airports, fire stations, "mansion" buildings, etc. The eastern coast is pale in comparison to the southern coast, making players typically suicide until they get a nice southern coast spawn, usually close to electro, and all this is due to the non-randomization of the loot. Regular houses in the cities and towns should have a chance to spawn mosins, ammo, and other desired loot. Should it be high spawn rate? Of course not, but it should be enough to make raiding smaller towns seem worth while, and actually looting every corridor of every building exciting and worth it. Make the entire map exciting to explore, not 2% of it.

Alpha. Jesus christ. Legit, it is an excuse for this time and period when they already plan on make loot respawn

I will second this. I think general randomization of loot is a good idea.

On a side note, I'd also like to see tents/storage/supplies randomly spawned in the woods. Think of it like helicopter crash site but in the woods. Players can stumble upon them, and get supplies, weapons, etc. Just something to randomize it up a bit.

if you stick to one server, most of them restart after 4hrs so if you know the cycle being the first person to get loot should be no problem. Also I disagree the point of alpha to me anyways is to remove flaws and modify the game to where it is actually playable, who cares how much loot you get when the zombies are no clipping, invisible and the game is a big deathmatch in elektro. That's not testing the game. As to the post above me I do like the idea of random tents and supplies in the woods. But if i were developing this game I feel like id rather try stop players legs breaking randomly than working on making loot respawning so greedy server hoppers are satisfied.

Definatley agree with the second point, currently the game is a bum rush to Elektro or Cherno and then hope you get the good loot from there.

More food in higher regions should make that a more desirable survivor area and the higher level loot for riskier players in the south. higher spawn rate for basic weapons would be great, especially barns,.

Yeah I only mentioned the tents/storage in the woods as a wishlist thing. There are a myriad of critical issues the game has to address before anything even remotely close to my suggestion can be implemented.

It's funny how people actually know what the problem is and then they ramble something about the gameplay and loot respawning. What's the issue here are the bugs, engine etc. not fucking bandits and loot spawns. You obviously have no idea what the issues are and what you're talking about.

I'm going to start referring threads like these as Mondays, because everyone hates Mondays.

I know i do.

But really now....it's alpha.

And besides, fixing the pitifull zombies is a bigger priority in my opinion.

That was my point :p.  I love how threads like these start with, "I know it's alpha but...."  No, you don't know it's alpha. (Not directed at you)

Nothing personal, but is it only me or are there TONS of people whose first two posts consist of ranting, whining, complaining, fullout bitching and trying to "help" by pointing out all the things that are "wrong"?

Wouldn't it be nice for a change if some new person actually checked to see if the problem was already being discussed (can only be like, I dunno, 37892357 different threads about this) or at least use the SEARCH button?

Guys really, you don't just come into someone's home and start randomly complaining before you even know if there's a group already sitting somewhere discussing the same issue you have.

Get a feel for the forum you use.

READ what other people write and discuss.

Then ANSWER in those already existing threads and don't waste space by making the umpteenth topic with basically the same rants everybody else starts.

Come on, guys, USE SOME COMMON SENSE! I hate to yell, but it seemed necessary this time. Patience wears a little thin these DayZ...

I vote for new users of this forum that they should not be allowed to post unless they have actually been a member for a week.

If they need help, they'll probably try the search function.

If they are angry about certain things or want to help, maybe they'll look at other already existing threads where they can actually join the discussion and rant all they want.

So there! <_<

You can't blame him...it's his 2nd post here. Most of us start the same way.(No new user ever used the search function on theese forums)

I still have my first topic i created on the forums,i kept it as a memento, and as a reminder.

Wanna see?

Well, it's just that the very first time I ever used a forum and started a new topic and got slammed for it, I learned. That, of course, was years ago, but to this day it is entirely normal for me to either google stuff I want to know, or if I am looking through a specific forum, I use the search.

Of, course, just because I have always done so, doesn't mean that everyone does. I get that. I was just getting a little frustrated over the fact that there's so many threads with almost exactly the same title / topic / content.

Also, I feel for the mods who actually have to yard or merge some of these threads every day, when it might not be necessary.

But, I apologize for derailing this thread, please, carry on.

Hahaha lol why are you apologizing?

You didn't derail anything, this topic is derailed by default. It would be good for the players

that have the "on the coast" title to be notified someway before they

post,in order to check the search function.

Your frustration is totally justified.

Wow, the amount of insulting you are doing to this guy for making a harmless post where he points out issues he sees in the game (also known as the point of being an Alpha tester) is disheartening to me.

Stop it, let people suggest things. There is no reason to yell Alpha unless they're screaming in All Caps about wanting a refund and actually whining, this guy isn't.
