Spidey (DayZ) 78 Posted March 18, 2014 I'd like to discuss 2 things on this topic, so without further due let's start. Optimalization WHY do the devs continue to focus about adding all the new stuff and fix the bugs, when DayZ SA is SO poorly optimized? Isn't it literally the worst optimized game you've EVER seen on PC? 20FPS in cities on high-end computers, so much lags and stuff that should be FAR beyond fixed already, before adding even one item. I'd like to point out that while I do really enjoy and I'm glad they are just pushing the updates kinda fast, I mean we get a patch every month or so with a lot of new and fixed stuff. That's very nice, and I'm thanking the devs for that. But really, what does it all matter when 50% of us are just having 15FPS in a city IF we are lucky ? Custom maps Will they be there? Is there any possibility? Because really, as much as Chernarus is big and entertaining, and yes they are indeed adding alot of new cities and towns, but over time, it gets really repetitive and stereotypical. Chernarus is just really a big plain field with some mountains with no reason to climb (because they are mostly just trees and rocks all over the place, with the exception of green mountain) and that is really kinda boring. It is what it should be, I mean, I can totally imagine a place like that in real world. But it's kinda boring, and it doesn't have alot of atmosphere, really. Everything is the same everywhere, same 5-10 buildings repeating in every single city, just in a different angles. When playing the mod, I really enjoyed the custom maps SO much. I mean, Namalsk Island was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome, there were reaaaally big tall huge mountains, covered in pure white SNOW at the top, and the COLD was also a factor to your health and the medical system (you had to warm yourself up every now and then if being in a cold enviroment), and it looked so great, there were snowstorms, and that alien weapon that just exploded every few hours and if you wasn't in a cover, you could say goodbye to your character. The feeling of climbing a mountain in a shivering cold, agressive and nasty snow-storm, while hearing footsteps and growls of the bloodsuckers that could reaally get me scared like nothing else would. Then when you looked all the way down there and you knew you just climbed a small Mt. Everest. And the map also wasn't as big as chernarus, but it sure was 200% more entertaining and far more interesting to play on. I'm not even talking about the other maps that are just as awesome. So here's the question, can we have these in standalone as well? I'd cut my d*ck and serve it to Dean on a golden plate for this. With ketchup, ofc. Bonus question: What about the music? What happened to the scariest music I've ever heard in a game that just fitted the theme and everything so much?
bastardo 12 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) I don't know anything about programming but if you optimize a game and then add a bunch of new shit then it's no longer optimized. Let's say you have a game optimized for 40 ppl then they add 5000 new objects in the game and up the server capacity to 60 then it's no longer optimized and you have to do it all over again. Mos1ey 6301 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) Aha, so with your logic games like World of Warcraft shouldn't even exist. Im not comparing anything, just sayin WoW isn't quite in the same stage of development as DayZ. I doubt it was particularly well optimised during alpha testing. I don't suppose you played the PlanetSide 2 alpha? Edited March 18, 2014 by Mos1ey
deebz1234 243 Posted March 18, 2014 my brain hurts but yes im sure in time others maps will be available, or at least from the modding community. remember A-L-P-FUCKING-H-A, optimization and core mechanics...then beta then release..ask this question in 12 months

Window Licker 504 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) In a slightly longer and more detailed fashion there is a few thing's that I would like to bring to your attention. While the optimization is a pain and as was pointed full optimization isn't done until it is about to hit beta, there was several things that where bought to the dev's attention about the way the GPU's are rendering the game, they also found the reason why cities where lagging. When I first started playing I experienced low frames in cities, I no longer have that issue and have been able to bump my gfx up a bit as well. The catch is that this is all on the experimental build, the experimental build is close to being pushed to stable and will be done once they fix the last bugs that are "stopping" them. There was a bit of an uproar when they pushed a buggy version to stable so now they are taking extra care to ensure it doesn't happen again. Custom maps won't happen until after they release. That's about all on that Deans from New Zealand so if you want to get on his good side you'll be serving your dick with Watties Tomato Sauce not ketchup. Bonus answer: no music makes the game more atmospheric imo, you could always just turn the radio or have winamp running in the background. Spidey (DayZ) 78 Posted March 18, 2014 Thanks for all the answers, some of them helped alot, some of them didn't. About the $$$. Uh do I really need to go into that... Okay. The page says there are 1 678 098 survivous out there now. As far as I know, everyone has to buy the game in order to play it. The game costs 23€ but for this purpose only let's say it's 20. Now one MILLION six hundred seventy eight thousand and ninety-eight survivors times 20 is ? 339 561 960 €. Now I really have no idea if I'm calculating this right, but even if i'm only a bit close, that is a LOT of money. Don't even try to tell me they don't have enough funds. Not trying to fight here, so by all means, if i'm wrong i'm sorry and just simply correct me. About the music - ughh well, it is indeed more realistic, but when you're running arround for 30 minutes and literally nothing special happens, and it even is a sunny day - nothing scary. No atmosphere there. And I don't like playing background music from the pc because that's just... well, it's mostly about the fact that I try to keep my PC as clean as possible during playing DayZ as it's really old and running on the edge - any lesser software or anything turned on in the background makes me drop a few crucial FPS. Also I don't know what to listen to. Anyone knows any good songs, something creepy and similar to the original DayZ mod music ?

As for the money, that goes to BIS and they decide how much goes to DayZ or something like that anyway, I like the ambiance running thru the woods and just hearing the bird's chirping, granted it ruined by zombie growls and the rest of those sound bug's, However when your running about and you hear the crack of a Mosin and mixed small arms fire, well that's a whole lot of what do I do now. Other then that perhaps try playing at night time, granted the gamma exploiters make it hard to enjoy but good lordy it has some tense moments particularly when your trying to sneak into a place to find a good gun. I feel your pain at having shitty frames, I got a $400 "gaming" PC and still haven't gotten around to switching out some of the parts, I'm gonna take a guess and say you have already modified you .cfg files to boost fps? Rkelt 46 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) Optimization is not done until Beta, read this to learn a little more...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycleMy opinions...About the money, you have to remember that Steam has its cut, and the rest goes to BIS. Now you have to take out more money cause they´ve been working for 1-1.5 years, plus the equipment and other things...And just because they sold a lot of copies, doesnt mean that they have to invest every single $$ in the game and then hope that it will sell more to compensate..
