Would You Balance The M4 and How / Bow and Arrow Discussion?

Recommended Posts

It's not in a "fine spot".

There's this thing called credibility. It's especially important in a game with DayZ's milsim heritage. Our sniper rifles shouldn't shoot tracers, the gravitational constant shouldn't be changed depending on the gun, and bolt-actions shouldn't be twice as powerful than semi-automatics using the same cartridge... and to that list of ridiculous things you can add many of the oft-heard complaints about the M4A1...

Weaker in what sense? Muzzle energy? So what? It is fully capable of producing more extensive wounds than 7.62x39mm M43 or M67 ball, or even the copper-jacketed 7.62x51mm M80 ball.

Arguably much, much worse...

Sigh that mil sim heritage makes me long for this.

Gibonez. As much as the majority of us would love to see this kind of stuff, it won't happen..

DayZ is no longer going to be an anti-game. Unless they have some integrity, a lot of things are going to be dumbed down, which is sad because it strays away from it's core philosophy.

Nooooooooooooo

I am hoping that the silly unrealistic stuff is merely just place holders and now that the team is growing some of the Arma devs will bring their mil sim expertise and will go one step further and add ace style features. Things such as weapon resting, bipod deployment, wind, moa and mrad elevation adjustments, realistic sway and recoil and many more features that make the game realistic and better.

Indeed, more realistic weapon handling would add a whole new depth to combat. Which I want, I want combat to be hard, tactical and unforgiving.

What they need to do is stick the vision, and not pull a WoW style catering to the lowest common denominator. Keep the game difficult and keep the learning curve high.

Different barrels and match-grade ammunition? *shrug*

There's not really a right way to do guns in a video game.

Read Gews post. Carefully.

This is supposed to be a simulation, or as close as possible.

When you have a very accurate carbine basically sneezing out rounds on a crazy cone of randomness at under 100 meters, it's not okay.

I shoot my own stock Bushmaster M4A3 all the time. Maybe it's because I'm not weak, but I can fire off rounds in rapid succession and the recoil doesn't suddenly make it so that I'm looking at the sky by round 5.

Yeah, proper firing form and technique is needed to aachieve tight groupings, but aiming down the sights with a bipod of a pristine M4 isn't going to make your round hit 15 feet to your right when you're only 100 meters away.

The mod had much better gun handling IMO.

I would love to see that type of accuracy restored as the current accuracy models make the SA feel too arcade... random dispersion????

Rocket y u do dis????

:(

It does but you know what feels even better?

Do yourself a favor and try out ace mod. Learn the firing methods and how-to rest your weapon how to deploy bipeds, how to drop your rucksack and then lay your rifle on it for support.

In fact anyone here who has not tried it devs included need to try ace mod and see how amazing gunplay can be within the Arma engine.

Dayz where beat up 100 year old mosin Nagants with cracked crowns and surplus ammo are more accurate than newly issued

M4s with new manufacturer ammo....

Actually a lot of Nagants are still in good condition.  You should also view it like this if that's the only gun in certain buildngs it was most likely a trusted hunting rifle or something else and handed down carefully generation to generation so it is more than likely still in good condition.  As for Surplus Ammo the weapon is pretty reliable no matter what you put in it plus it's bolt action plus it's a sturdier build overall.

As for the M4...  It may be newer with fresh ammo but you might need to understand something.  I can assure you (military experience) the M4 was more likely to be abused and used rough and less tolerant of it to boot.  It has more internal parts and components.  Is a Full Auto and has way less tolerance for problems with the ammunition not to mention more frequent jams and that's not even mentioning problems with magazines.  If ya'll want realism I'd like to see ya'll have to clear jams from your rifle now that would be hilarious depending on the severity of the jam/misfire.  Hell lets add regular maintaining and increased wear and tear if wet.

I have alot of experience shooting both weapons.  The military and civilian versions of M4 and my own Mosin.  The M4 can be accurate at distance if fired single shot with higher quality components but there is still the limitation on the bullet which no matter how much you improve a weapon the caliber will eventually nullify at a set distance.

Where by the Mosin is single shot bolt action with a heavier caliber which translates to a harder hit but also better accuracy at a farther distance provided the shooter does the right things and having a good scope would help too.

I would remove the stupid accessory system affecting gun accuracy mechanic.

Instead gun parts affect handling ( Recoil, aim down sight time, sway and stability, bipods = ability to deploy and hold tight on objects or ground)

Then I would give each weapon the properties from ACE mod so you end up with predictable accuracy that is true to life.

Any op weapons would get adjusted in the loot tables.
