Mental Condition/Emotion System

Recommended Posts

I was recently thinking about some kind of emotions or feelings system that could be implemented into DayZ

I was thinking that having an indicator under the place it says "Hungry" and "Thirsty" where it could say how you are feeling or how mentally stable you are. Each feeling will have a different perk or disadvantage to it.

Your mental condition and feelings would also change as your life went on.

For example:

When you first spawn you could feel shocked or confused, which could enable you to run slightly faster than someone who has been alive for a number of hours.

When you see your first zombie, you could be scared, also enabling you to sprint faster for a short amount of time to get away from it. As your life goes on your no longer become scared of zombies and thus run the same speed as them meaning you have to find a way of killing it.

Other examples include feelings which could be:

When you kill another player for the first time: feelings of shock and sudden realisation sink in enabling your screen to blur slightly more when turned for a short period of time. As you kill more players you become desensitised to the act of killing another human and adopt a "kill or be killed" mindset.

As you give another person some food or medicine, you feel good or happy, enabling you to survive longer on a smaller amount of food or water, or increasing your aim slightly, as your feel more confident.

Any thoughts?

I have also thought about this, that could reduce kos if it affected your mental health until a certain kill amount is reached, and you could take in pills etc, but meh, it will never make it into the game.

Sounds very nice and it would make the game harder and focus on the survival aspect.

I like the way the energy, the health, the blood, the water and the stomach bar works and some kind of "karma" or "feeling"
or "self confidence" bar would be great (for me).

Sounds pretty good, only thing is I doubt the devs would want to nerf the KOS system like this :/. Lots of KOS people in DayZ so that means the dev team has to satisfy them to keep them playing..

Nah, i don't need little buffs here and there from the game determining how i should feel.

Game has no way of knowing what I feel so I really do not like it.

I am fine with physical effects but not arbitrary emotional stuff.

It just can't be dude...

In DayZ the only feelings that matter,is from the one behind the screen,

and not the one in it.Take a moment to think about this one ;)

I experienced shock when I killed my first player and realised what I had done (Wiped out several hours of anothers time).

I stood there like an idiot for the first 30 seconds it took for his buddy to ventilate my baseball cap. We don't need this system.

Really, if you have been playing the game for a long time you will see this emotion idea is SUPER pointless. The game is about what you experience first hand as the player, those emotions you speak of you already experience when you yourself actually first start playing the game for the first time.. I can see what you mean but to have to go through these so called "emotions" each time you start a char seems a bit off from a veteran players stand point
