entspeak 374 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) I've started this thread in response to discussion in the changelog thread so that the conversation can be more focused and on topic. My opinion is that players shouldn't be able to post on changelog threads. They should only be updated by the devs with information about the build. Relegate player comments about the game to other forums. It would be nice to have a central place to get information about a particular build without all the added noise. I do agree with comments about how additions to the changelog are handled. It can be difficult to tell what's been added with the current "living document" system when new additions aren't clearly identified. Of course, if you lock the thread such that only devs can post, you can put new additions in new posts - or do both... then you'll have an item on the first page and you could see the date it was added by browsing or searching the thread. IIRC, r4z0r49 started doing something like this with the pending mod updates and it made it much easier to see what was being added or fixed in test builds. When it comes time for stable release, the additions can be compiled into one complete changelog. As for the information given on twitter, reddit or anywhere else, there will always be diverse sources for that kind of information - people get interviewed, or someone appears on someone else's gaming stream. The information is available if you search for it, but just don't expect it to be spoon fed to you. The amount of open discussion by the devs for this game is more than you get with most others - it's a bonus... enjoy that for what it is. There needs to be discussion about it and there needs to be feedback. Whilst there could be dedicated "Changelog"-threads there also should be "feedback"-threads, because if there wouldn't be it would completely annihilate the purpose of this very forum. And if this would happen you would just end up with people opening their own threads and the need for more moderators.
entspeak 374 Posted March 14, 2014 What sort of feedback are you referring to? Bugs have the feedback site linked to in the bugs forum. General thoughts about the build would go in the general discussion forum and suggestions would go in the suggestions forum. People start their own threads as it is. Locking down the changelog thread keeps it uncluttered and easier to track what's happening with the build.
Ninja_Meh 115 Posted March 14, 2014 the other alternative would be to have a development roadmap site specifically for the release of anything dayz updates orientated, and then have the forums as a space for testers (players if some prefer to be called that but at this stage in the game every player SHOULD consider themself as a tester not a player) the whole reason its gotten to this suggestion of having seperated threads and locked changelog posts is because it would seem that people do not consider anyone else when posting mindless twattle on important update information threads. Clearly they left the changelog posts unlocked under the impression that people playing dayz as it is, READ THE BLURB people are advised game is not finished and that as such people should NOT BUY THE GAME yet lol. shows that a lot of people do not read anymore before buying stuff. i hope somehow between the supportive test base and the development teams something can be come up with to divert this situation. i dont want this game to go down the pan because a load of lemons dont understand what they bought in the early access section on steam with dayz..... rickenbacker 190 Posted March 14, 2014 That won't work, though. There needs to be discussion about it and there needs to be feedback. Who needs these discussions, then? I'm pretty sure no-one got anything useful out of the discussion in the latest changelog thread.
