Resetting of character

So I've found some other topics about it, however I was wondering if in my situation maybe things are different.

 

It never really happened to me before. Of course, sometimes when I switch to a different server because there is simply not much going on with the server I'm playing on, in very rare cases I've spawned without gear. However, after just logging out and go to a different server this problem was resolved. No problem.

 

Since this week it has been happening a lot more though. I gear up, my friends log in, we decide to go to a full server. So we go into the woods, we log out and go into another server. My friends spawn fully geared, and I end up on the coast as a fresh spawn. Now I've tried the following:

 

Logging out immediately and look for a different regular server

Exit steam, reboot the game and look for the same server as I was on in the first place

Tried logging in to 4 or 5 servers, only to still be that fresh spawn at the coast.

 

 

Now, one of my other friends has the exact same issue. It also has been happening to him a lot more since the last week or 2. It just doesn't happen at all to the other people I play with. We don't have similar systems, connections or anything. I've tried every possible solution imaginable, even re-installed the game 3 times, even moved steam to a different SSD, but to no avail.

 

Does anyone of you have any other suggestions I could try? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I know I should not get attached to gear, and I know it's an alpha, however, when it only seems to affect a specific group of people, maybe it's useful to collect more information on this. I've looked at the bugtracker, and if you have something to add to this, or have a workaround/solution, please let me know. It's much appreciated.

I still have the gear from the beginning of january on my character, yet one of the friends i started playing with was experiencing this last night, tbh i thought he was just joining private servers but if it's happening to you too i might've been a bit too critical of his claim :P

I always try and avoid the private servers. Most of the time its the GB - random number - hosted by multiplay servers (or fragnet or vilayer) with loads of people on them. If it was a private server, I'm sure that the other people of the group would also have lost their gear upon logging into a different server. So that's not it unfortunately. I hope they can find a solution.

Have lately had the same issue as well, i log into a server and bam. Nope, nada, nothing.

It happened to me last night. Rage quit. Be on soon to gear up again.  But basically ruined game night last night. Rarely happens but on the off chance our doors, it sucks for sure.

It happened to me TWICE today. I lost a Mosin with a Long Range Scope and Bipod all in pristine condition. I had an M4A1 with red dot sight, mp buttstock etc. 60 mag clips all pristine.

 

I had all pristine TKsO jacket/pants/uk assault vest/helmet etc. etc. Like all my gear was perfect/pristine.

 

I logged out and spawned fresh at the coast. So I looted again got another Mosin and Scope and decided to PVP right away. I logged out because I was bored of the server I was in to go to another.

 

I received a message from the new server telling me my character had failed to load and that it has been reset.

 

So pissed right now... All that time spent looting for NOTHING. All my gear lost. Twice in one day, WTF is going on? I understand it's an alpha game, but wtf.....

did you change some values in your config files, to increase your fps for example?

Yes I did, I think its viewing distance etc. The basic things that were recommended to increase FPS. Can this really be the cause of the issue?

Its an issue, and it started after the last patch. Its nothing you can do to fix it :)

Its a connection to the hive problem, and once you spawned on a fresh character, the hive is saved. The good-old-logout fast trick and go back to the server were you`re character was in the first time aint going to work anymore, this is because of the 280sec punishment timer.

So just sit back, wait for the new patch. Meanwhile, just start a new character everyday, once and a while it will be saved. Change your ingame name, it helps us a few times.

To the people that are losing gear, have you been playing on private servers and to the people that haven't, have you been playing on private servers? Maybe the character info is getting confused? I've never played on a Priv Hive and I've never lost my gear. I have played on both reg and HC servers. My friends I play with are the same too - never lost any gear and we must have put in about 50 hours so far.

No, we have never played on private hives, we play Standalone - Private Hives doesn't exist.

Played 430+ hours, i`ve lost the track of how many character reset it has been, 15+ at least.

May be. i also changed some values in the config files and after that i locked those files (so the game could not overwrite them) I lost 3 Charakters while the files were locked. Did you lock your config files? If so try this if your Charackter gets resetted again:

1. Backup all of those 3 config files (just in case)

2. Delete all of those 3 config files (while not running the game of course).

3. Start the Game (the Game will replace the deleted config files)

You can still change some values but don’t lock those config files. This is how it worked for me.

To be clear. The last time it happened to me I did not fresh spawn. I had same toon, in same location I logged out, only I had zero gear. I was in underwear only. That was a first for me.

Its funny how people think its a fix for this. Unless you are one of the devs.

If the next hive you enter can't connect you the last hive you played on, you will respawn fresh.

If you lost your keys under the carseat and can't reach for it - you simply won't get it.

at least it was a fix for me (so far). last charackter reset i had 14(?) Days ago. And all my resets happend while my config files were locked.

playing on different servers? no problem for me.

Probably there are more than one reasons for charackter resets.

I'm not quite that hardcore but I have heavily modified my cfg files, the only time I've had a wipe was playing on a "l0075 24/7 reset fast gear" server I really don't understand how people are having this much of an issue.

So far I still have my character. I need to figure out if this will be a fix or not. I've deleted my cfg files and let them be replaced by the original ones. I was thinking about this before, but I figured that once you uninstall and reinstall DayZ from steam, it would have also reset those folders, but it doesn't. The folders in your Documents folder will not be removed during an automatic uninstall.

 

I did notice some improvements in my gameplay overall as well which is weird because in the past I've edited those files for fps improvements. Anyway will keep you posted.

The problem have not been occurring for me the last 2 days.

The only thing i have done was to change my in-game name and always go all the way back to main menu after I log out. (earlier i`ve just alt+tab the game when its on `server list`)

Whether this is just coincidence or not, that I do not know. But its helped me - And my character reseted 5 times a day.
