Tracked someone for 45 minutes to try and meet them but it got complicated

Recommended Posts

At 5:15 in this video I first heard shots from Balota Airfield. Carefully followed the sounds without being seen. Towards the end of the first video I start closing in.

I was tracking them like this because I wanted to meet on my terms, to see them first and say hello from a safe position rather than running right in and probably getting shot.

Both of these videos are about 10 min long. The rest of the story continues here:

Not terrible, but I already know not to go afk under bridges on the coast, and to not use railroad tracks or roads for much besides landmarks. Honestly, I was more surprised you followed them so closely to the track for much of it, but changing anything about your approach would have screwed up the perfect timing you had here, so there's really not a lot of room for poking holes in your play. At least, not from me.

+2 web kudos for being good with the SKS and the ugly, barely-magnifying PU scope. The scope is one of the items on my "I really hope this is placeholder" list.

There are a lot of other players who aren't aware of that though.

After following and observing them for so long I was feeling pretty confident about getting closer. I was assuming there was no one else around except me and them when I got down to the railroad. There has been so little activity around Cherno lately I decided to take the risk.

It was really just about waiting for the right moment. He was sitting still and didn't know I was there.

I liked your videos a lot. I'm one of those guys who tries to kill the killers, and leave the friendlies alone. My only exception to that rule is on a military base or airfield, if I see you, you're dead. Unless you kill me, then I'm dead.

Anyway, I have to admit, having played this game quite a bit over the past few weeks I've had it, I jumped when you fired your SKS, cause my thought process is "Oh crap, I'm dead!" Then I remembered, I wasn't playing lol.

I agree, all bets are off at military bases. I mean, I've found a couple of friendlies there before, but the vast majority, definitely not.

Hey man, I've really come to enjoy your videos. You're one of the few DayZ players that seems to integrate strategy in with kindness and "policing". You're also one of the best players I've ever seen, as well. I really enjoy your playstyle, and I wish I could get to be more like you when I play. One of the things I need to learn is, how many players should the server I go on have if I want to get into some firefights in the woods? I often go on 28-30 player servers in Elektro to get into firefights, but I often die from snipers. Then when I go onto sniper hill, me or my friends always seem to get shot by a player with an M4. Basically, how many players are on the servers you play on most often?? Thank you if you reply, and sorry for such a long post. Cheers

All good questions. When I have time later I'll come back to you with a long response.

I choose server with the highest population possible to increase my chances of running in to people. That's the only reason I sometimes play on regular servers at all, it's always possible to find a full one. Would much rather play on hardcore only.

Running into Elektro is pretty suicidal. You might get a couple of kills but you usually won't last very long. Sniper hill is very dangerous also.

In the last video I posted here, I left in the end because it was getting too messy. When I arrived it looked like those two guys were hanging out in the trees and there was no one above them, up the hill to the right. So I started out with a decent idea of where everyone seemed to be.

In the end, there was one armed guy and one unarmed, I had no idea if either of them were the people I'd already fought with, no idea where they were. Approaching that same area was now very dangerous. Apart from the fact I was freaked out by how my gun was behaving.

This may or may not have helped, but I just want to make it clear that there were multiple decisions that went into engaging those two, and multiple decisions that went into leaving. I don't just run in and hope to kill someone.

I think I'll make a video which might explain this a little better.

Thanks man, you're a really cool dude ;). Also, I do see what you mean about being trapped if you go into Elektro. I know that you could just log, but that's boring... Anyway, I'm going to try to be more careful about my approach to people from now on. Also, Elektro is a target no matter how many people are on the server. Hell, I was on a server with 4 people and I found two people in a firestation there. They both had guns, a mosin and an M4, and I actually had a real fun time. I'm going to post about that, I wish I could've recorded it... Anyway, your video did a very good job of explaining things, I actually like your videos just as much, if not more than Frankies or JackFrags. Thanks for taking the time to reply to me man. Cheers.

One of the saddest DayZ experiences I've had was at Balota in between the barracks. It's a long story so I won't go into it, but anyway, I betrayed a dude who tried to help me, then we helped him, then I made a mistake handcuffing him with pristine cuffs, even though I didn't have keys, and we ended up executing him for him. I still talk to him on steam, but I feel bad everytime I do. He was helping me and I had my friends go shoot him... I did only tell them to hold him up though, Charlie is a ferocious little bugger, though. >.>
