Do you think it is way too easy to upset someone in this game?

Recommended Posts

Maybe some people don't care about getting shot at all, maybe they just don't like to step in the KOS/ server-hopping circle jerk.

People stated multiple times in every thread that no one actually gives a rats ass about getting killed but it's the overall mentality on server that seems to piss people off.

There is a difference between gearing up like everyone else and then play whatever gamestyle fits you best and farm-hop servers and go on a killingspree because you don't have anything to do, even better to play near the coast, because more fun shooting unarmed players.

I could'nt care less about getting killed, most times I didn't even have a backpack nor any equipment, but it gets tiresome.

It gets tiresome, to get hold up - as a fresh spawn - by a group of 4 dudes in full military gear playing with you like a cat is playing with mice "follow our orders and nothing will happen, we just wanna rob you", the mocking you, calling you a [insert random insult here] and shooting you anyways.

It's tiresome to try to avoid any contact because you know stuff wont end well anyways, and believe it or not: it's not thrilling at all, no paranoia anymore...because I know that every damn encounter with another player will end up with him starting opening fire on me. Everything is way too predictable.

The argument that this is an FPS is valid, but it's a survival horror game as well...and server-hopping to farm endgame gear to go on a killing spree on the coast has nothing to do with either FPS or survival horror, it's just easy mode, acting tough and getting fun out of harassing people who has a real intention to actually play the game.

To me, server hoppers are no better than cheaters, as they use unfair ways to get themselves an advantage over other players for their own personal entertainment.

Maybe I'm just tired, but not sure why my post was quoted, as your response doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I was saying, unless my reading comprehension is in the crapper.

Ive pissed a few off. But it was more of ranting than bitching on there part.

I do say all kinds of crap after I die to see if I can get them to laugh or shot my corpse again. Like, "Nice COD Kill" etc...

I don't use any military gear anymore and carry the tiny home made sling bag. That way when I die I know they didn't get anything worth while and I didn't lose anything either.

You said people wouldn't be able to handle perma-death and it would be their own fault when they die, thats what I refered to, saying, that people actually don't care when getting killed and it isn't necesarilly their fault when they get mowed down by full squads as fresh spawns near the coast.

It isn't the fact that they got killed but rather the way it happened, considering the fact all those PVP heroes camping the coast most likely just did server hop to gear up.

Maybe I did get offtopic (regarding the context of your post) a bit though.

we have spoil entitle bastard generation

never know true poverty > :(

never experience true horror in life like war in the streets > :(

always told in school 'you are winner' even when they are loser  :D

having every comfort from birth and mama saying 'yes my baby have what you want' all the time <_<

never struggle for nothing

and then some guy coming along in video game world and put bullet in the face doing for fun and this guys in pure shock :o

then they coming forums for express outrage because for sure THEY CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPEN

This is the core of it.

It has nothing to do with game mechanics, and everything to do with social conditioning in real life. Generations that have been raised to think they deserve everything with no effort put towards achieving those ends, being led to believe that they are immune to failure.

Ironic that a video game is showing them the cold hard truth- life's a bitch.

Some people think it is some sort of roleplay sims game where killing is forbidden and they get hella mad when you blow their head off.

I'd like to add a comment to this;

I come from one of the richest countries in the world, Norway, and yes we are spoiled brats for the most part when compared to people living in horrendous conditions around the world, but you know what?

Since we are so rich and have so much free time on our hands, a lot of us have travelled the world and visited those areas, and there have been quite a bit of travel/roadtrip etc. movie/documentaries made by those people over the years. You want to know what I have observed with these documentaries? Without much exception, some of the poorest people norwegian/scandinavian globetrotters have enqountered on their travles are the ones who were the most including. There is a red line in them all, the less money and resourced the people they meet have available, the more they share with complete strangers, while REFUSING to accept anything in return.

That tells me that the poor and unfortunate are the ones who know the value of community and cooperation, not us über-rich douchebag, oil pumping morons of the western europe/scandinavian area.

So no, I will not accept your notion that the whiners, who yes, are spoiled brats, have something to "learn" about watching their backs with regards to others living in worse conditions.

Just because we are asshats doesn't mean we need to learn to accept that we will be shot down in cold blood by people who are in the know. The ones who are in the know are so because of (mostly) religious disputes, corruption and capitalism. In Dayz though, it is a zombie apocalypse.

Not nearly in the same ballpark.

A lot of people I kill DO seem to care pretty greatly about dying. The threads floating around here also indicate that at least some people get really booty bamboozled about dying, not just bambis getting hunted on the coast.

Granted, being shot as a fresh spawn on the coast before you can even move 3 feet is not within your control, but every time I've been killed that wasn't massive lag or someone who was hacking (Only 2 times I can seriously say were hacking 100%) the reason I died is because I was either too trusting, or I wasn't shooting well enough, or I didn't properly scope out where I was going and got ambushed.

Complains to people about taking video games too seriously.

Compares experience in video games to 'real poverty' and 'war in the streets'

Goddamn LOL. I bet you've never been hungry a single day in your life. I bet you've never had to gut and clean a squirrel just to eat meat for that week irl. Come on bro.

Edit: On topic, this game makes me very emotional. I can't explain it, I am one paranoid sumbitch now after my first few encounters. I wouldn't shout slurs into voip if I had it, no, but other players being dicks kinda makes me feel sad. Also no one will talk to me in text chat! No one at all! :(

In my opinion the amount of emotion your toon dying stirs up is in direct relation to how much you try to keep it alive. For example if I am extremely careful, peeking around every corner, and so on, I will get more upset if I die. If I simply run around screaming, trying to punch everyone and everything I would probably not even be able to notice any emotion.

Compare it to if you have a kitten. You feed it, cuddle it, potty train it, take funny pictures of it, cuddle it, feed it, and so on. You create bonds. You will be sad if/when it dies.

If you instead have that same kitten, and the only way you interact with it includes measuring the time it takes before it hits the ground when you drop it from a ten story building, and measure the radius of the impact area with a measuring tape, before getting a new kitten..

I feel ya. Out of the last four encounters I've had, only the second spoke to me. The first was two people whom I initiated conversation with to figure out if they were friendly. They flanked around the house I was by and shot me dead without uttering a single word.

The third was a dude that coincidentally logged in only a few meters from where I logged in. I said "Hey man" and he pointed his rifle at me, so I said "Chill out" and ran away.

The fourth was a guy coming out of the woods and stumbling right into me and my pal, and when he started fumbling for his gun and hiding in a pine tree I said "don't move", at which time he logged.

It's a tough crowd.

No, he managed to get out before me and my pal advanced around the rock. We weren't even planning to shoot him to be honest. Just see what he was up to, and make sure he didn't shoot us in the back.
