Steins 86 Posted June 24, 2012 :huh:Are server admins allowed to restart the server to remove all other players and then limit the number of players to (in this case 4) so that they can play with just their close friends? In this case, me and a few friends were playing on "UK #31 - n00baphile's Candy Land" and then all of sudden we all lost connection (we were meeting up to head north and establish a base somewhere), the server had been restarted. When we came back to find the server only had 5 slots instead of 50 (as it always has) two of us were able to get into the 5 slot game again, only for the server to restart again and force us to lose connection. After that the slots dropped to 4 players and then I kept refreshing waiting for the server to restore to 50 slots, I saw the stages "waiting", "setting up" and "playing" appear, I took a screenshot in the six launcher and the filter settings for ArmA2 - they're below. It's kind of annoying that they are able to do that, I was in a server literally 10-15 minutes before which was shutdown (not restarted) moments after I picked up a remington(flashlight) shotgun. (which I did not keep after entering n00baphile's server). :dodgy:
draulxx 0 Posted June 25, 2012 I had joined the server and the admin of the server said it was having issues. I was getting pretty bad lag and game freezing.
n00baphile 0 Posted June 25, 2012 Yeah sorry, We have been having some server issues with a lot of desyncs and other performance issues and we are currently trying to fix this. I don't think the server hardware can handle the current load of 50 slots. The server should be back up soon when we have a guaranteed way to keep the server stable ! Please bare with us ! Steins 86 Posted June 25, 2012 Oh, ok then, sorry, it's just there was no explanation about why it went off and it seemed like (to me and my friends) that you guys were just playing privately to make it easier on yourselves finding loot. I'm sorry for jumping to such a conclusion as cheating. I noticed the number of players went down from 50 to 30 so I entirely believe you. For much of our group Candy Land is like a home server, we play on it whenever we can, but when it went down we set up a hard core base in another server so we won't be back for 1-2 days until the fencing and such disappears or our base is raided/vehicles stolen/tents destroyed. penox 2 Posted June 25, 2012 Well... There's a rule about the minimum server slots a server can have. I can't remember correctly and please correct me if it has changed, but when I saw the post it was 25 slots, and that was only for countries with "not-so-good" connections. Devianti 1 Posted June 27, 2012 Let's cut some slack for those running servers guys! I've been playing on Candy Land solidly the last week and despite battling with unstable server code I reckon they're doing a good job. Granted it's down right now but I'm sure they'll have it up and running soon. We're in early Alpha for a CRAZILY popular game with server shortages. As well as imposing restrictions (which are there for very good reasons) let's also show some support for those providing servers. :)DayZ is brutal. And oh boy do I love it. Even after getting sniped two hours after getting my first Ghillie suit today. *cries*
fire708 17 Posted June 27, 2012 this happens alot and the "were doing server maint" excuse is heard alot. At least n00baphile has the balls to give an explanation as to what he's dealing with. That gets points in my book.
