Ratter (DayZ)

Play styles discussion.

Recommended Posts

I haven't been playing DayZ long or using this forum that long ether. But from what I have learned that the play styles are the obvious Bandit, Hero, Medic and good old fashioned Survivor. Due to my lack of experience I may have missed one or two.

Here comes my point ( obviously the game is still in Alfa) as there are not that many choices in SA at the moment kit wise it is a little restrictive to how imaginative you cam be with load outs.

What I am interested in and quite possibly the developers too, is how would you like to play the game maybe you want to play a different way but can't due to restrictions or stick with how you are going at the moment with a few more tweaks hear and there and what would you like to have implemented into the game to make it possible therefor more rewarding/immersive.

Please don't make this a weapons wish list there are other threads for that. Think outside the box a bit and let me know your style and what would make Your day to day Dayz life that bit better.

You want a skill tree. Haven't played bf4 so not familiar with it but it would be nice to be rewarded for staying alive and it to compliment how you play. Would you like to be able to customise it yourself or just have it naturally evolve behind the screens?

Stalker.

I like to see how close I can get to others without being spotted.  Sometimes if they are attacked will help them out, just get in and out and disappear once more.

So with that in mind the possibility of smaller sized chars, maybe limit the amount I can carry, forced to wearing smaller backpacks, cant run as fast due to smaller gait, my effectiveness with larger weapons etc.. to compensate for being harder to hit/see.

If I want to be a man mountain and lug loads of gear around with me that's a choice I'd have to make.

I don't think that gear affects my playstyle. I think the gear we have now and gear we may get in the future still won't affect my playstyle.

That is to say, I see gear as tools to supplement a certain playstyle.

The players are fairly creative in their playstyles. The gear just helps to further customize the experience.

That's me though.

It may sound like I am contradicting myself a bit but I do agree with you on what you are saying but I'm hoping a few people post on this thread some really good/interesting ideas that maybe no one else has thought about the more options out there the more people can chose to or not to do. Some one posted about modular pooches on your back pack and chest rig which would bring a nice bit of customisation to your gear and character.

Missed the last bit of your message for some reason. I like that idea that would be good wouldn't need as much beans and water too :) and like you said you could be a man mountain too if you wished.

Escaped Ward of the State.

I am unpredictable, sloppy and absolutely insane. During moments of lucidity I try to survive. When the voices take over, I am capable of anything.

Haha the schizophrenic bipolar sociopath see there's a new title for play style.

Tramp.

I generally just womble, but I have also tried sitting down on Elektro High Street and asking passers by if they have any spare change. I got shot though.

I know Hero, Bandit and Survivor which is a mix of the two but what exactly is a medic? You just go around randomly bandaging people? Isn't that hero?

I guess didn't put much thought into that bit I guess medics are a different type of hero or a role defined within a group.

So how do you play and what you would like to see changed to make the game better for you?

I supposed I'm just a boring old survivor. I'm not a bandit and I don't KOS, I prefer to avoid people most of the time. When I am geared up I usually go and try to find, identify and kill bandits, but that doesn't make me a hero as I often like to mess with freshies just for the hell of it. In short, I'm a perfect neutral.

Dont think the medic is its own playstyle. Bandits act hostile, survivors neutral and heroes friendly. The medic is maybe a "sub-class" of the hero. Just like there are KoS bandits and those bandits that just hold people up to steal their stuff or torture them. But the 3 big "classes" are just Hero, Survivor and Bandit imo.

Ah, I see. On that note, I'd like to see some sort of custom patch kind of thing. Where you could have a 'team' insignia that you design and be able to wear it on your sleeve. After you've found a 'patch kit' or something in the game world.

However, I'd imagine the younger ones of the community might just make a poop design and have silly stuff on their patches.

Maybe, instead of a customizable patch, a set of patches you can find within the world. Ones that have the 'medic cross' or some others that are...more 'bandity' I suppose. Perhaps some that appear 'friendly' in design. Then again, there would be nothing to stop 'bandits' from wearing the 'hero' patch...

What if they took a page from mod and made the patch ...like attach the patch to the 'humanity' meter.

I dunno, I could go either way on the patch idea. That is to say I'm not really for or against the patches. Those are just some thoughts I had while typing.

Anyway, back on topic.

I generally play friendly. I don't open fire unless I'm either fired upon, or someone doesn't comply with my orders to stay back. If I see a fresh spawn and I have an abundance of food I'll approach and offer food and drink.

Actually there have been a couple times where I shoot first. If I see a group of geared players harassing a fresh spawn. In that instance I'll take a few shots and try to take out the bullies before ducking back into the treeline. I leave the fresh spawn to do what he will at that point. Unless he's cuffed and I have a key. Then I'll uncuff him and go about my way, otherwise I'll slip away, hopefully unnoticed.
