Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Hey everyone.I just had a flash that honey dosen't have an expiration date and dosen't spoil,so i thought it would be nice addition to the game.We can find natural beehives on trees.... Or man-made ones.... To get close and extract the honey, you need beesmokers,or you may risk getting attacked. We can also find honey as an a common item in every household. Also fun-fact is beeswax is an igrentient, used to manufacture candlesticks. So,what are your thoughts on this? :D Edited March 10, 2014 by Damnyourdeadman

Ramzzzeee 17 Posted March 10, 2014 And getting stung could require a epipin if your character happens to be allergic (someone else suggested somewhere but i can't find it)I support this, I'd love to chow down on a pb&honey sandwich in the apocalypse! Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I sense more danger in the wasteland... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071014172428AADLRrp But i know for a fact that if you are allergic to them,it could mean serious trouble in an apocalypse scenario. bobotype3334 160 Posted March 10, 2014 Yeah, honey in jars sounds like a good idea as a food item. Not really going for hives themselves though, seems a bit too in-depth and Chernarus isn't exactly packing flowers.
bobotype3334 160 Posted March 10, 2014 In fact, is Chernarus even the right climate to have bees? I thought you had to have a certain degree of warmth.
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted March 10, 2014 In fact, is Chernarus even the right climate to have bees? I thought you had to have a certain degree of warmth. From wikipedia... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_honey_bee "The honey bee needs an internal body temperature of 35 °C (95 °F) to fly""The optimal air temperature for foraging is 22–25 °C (72–77 °F""Below 7–10 °C (45–50 °F), bees become immobile, and above 38 °C (100 °F), their activity slows. Honey bees can tolerate temperatures up to 50 °C (122 °F) for short periods."

Sorry for the buzzkill OP.Edit: Jarred honey still makes sense though. Edited March 10, 2014 by bobotype3334
dannynickelov 126 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) These things are all over Chernarus, so the climate should be okay. Edited March 10, 2014 by DannyNickelov
KT_Cobra 22 Posted March 10, 2014 Any survival expert would say that unless you're an actual bee keeper, the risk of messing with a hive EXCEEDINGLY outweighs the benefits. I, personally, don't see the point, but nice suggestion.

Honey never spoils either, it simply goes to sugar. If you use smoke, you can daze them, mess with it safely and extract the honey. It's not nuclear science.... KT_Cobra 22 Posted March 10, 2014 If you use smoke, you can daze them, mess with it safely and extract the honey. It's not nuclear science.... Like I said, unless you were a beekeeper with actual experience and the gear to do this, it is not recommended by survival experts. Don't misunderstand my post here. I'm not trying to start an arguement, but have you actually ever tried this? It's not easy to do, especially without the right gear. This kind of mentality gets people killed who are in a survival scenario. They think they can accomplish something along these lines and wish they hadn't after they realise the first two bees that found their way into their make-shift suit has stung them. After this happens, you have an entirely new emergency situation on hand. Never ever increase your potential risks when trying to survive. There's almost always a better option than dealing with something that can kill you.

But just in case, if you're ever in one, please stay away from bees for your sake. I'm really looking forward to hunting predators too. It'll give that rush of "Who's hunting who? Who's gonna' die?"
