I am sure we all know how easy it is to make a potato gun in real life:

Seriously though, the effort put into this would be much better dealt with by eating the potatoes and loading it with something else, or just looking for a normal gun and ammunition.

In one of the Tremors movies they made a 'potato' gun that shot arrows/rebar using smaller pipes and a garden nozzle to act as the touch hole.

I like this idea.

I would make it more simple.

 

PVC pipe + hacksaw + glue = Potato gun

 

Potato gun + spray can + potato = ready to fire.

Why limit it to just potatoes?  I'm sure a soda can can fit in one of thous, and a rag or something to act as wading.

Yes, nearly all cans should be used for ammo.

Maybe also spraypaint-cans, which make a loud noise when hitting something.

 

I'd stand on top of the hospital in elektro and fire beans, sodas and spaghetti through the whole town.
