What you must know before purchasing a server WITH ANY HOST.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

It has come to my attention that users who have/want DayZ servers are not following the rules provided by DayZ, Or they think they can get around the rules set by DayZ.

Things users must remember is that these rules are forced upon Server Providers by DayZ them selves.

The rules are there to provide fair and better game play for all users across all servers.

Please remember that this has nothing todo with the server provider who is hosting your game server and they are pretty much powerless when it comes down to modifications on these rules.

No matter what any host tell you, You can not get around these rules.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are found with the following, your server will more than likely be suspended at most server providers and if it's not suspended it will result in the entire ip range being BLACKLISTED.

1. Your server does not conform with the DayZ name convention.

2. Your server slots are not valid ( This is for those servers within the list that have low slot counts in an attempt to get around the locking/password restrictions)

3. Your server is password protected or locked.

Please also note no server provider is allowed to provide servers below 40 slots, or 30 within low bandwidth countries.

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU THESE ARE THE RULES PLEASE ABIDE BY THEM.

Best Regards,

Lee

another thing to add is dont spend money on a server and then think it will be up and running in a matter of minutes i suggest researching the server info maybe even setting up a spoof home server with regular Arma II before attempting to host a DayZ as a first time user as it can be combersome without previous experience

Can we have a dev support this rule? I respect that you are a server host but I have not seen any official post from the development team stating that you have to have a 40 player slot minimum.

Only saying since I pay for a server and have a lower player count to keep performance high and to discourage pkers and trolls. We have a nice regular community and don't want it ruined by afew people who run 5 man servers just to exploit the game.

Thanks.

Hello Throbin,

If you had less than 40 players before the restriction was placed, then you should be ok. It is generally for new servers. I think it has less to do with the 5 man servers and more to do with hive usage. When there are tons of little servers spamming the hive it can cause massive desync issues.

The official stance at this time is you must have 40 slots on all of your servers or at least 30 in places where bandwidth is expensive (developing countries).

Those servers will be blacklisted before long.

The new DayZ system is due to be released any day now and then the mass blacklist will occur.

Australia is a developing country? :P

Thanks Lee for this thread, very informative.

Jonnerz it is not a developing country but according OECD Australian bandwidth and internet in general is one of the more expensive so to allow hosts to be setup there we permit that region to have a lower slot limit.

can someone please list some reasons why ANYONE would host for this game? only reason i would want a server is so i have a low ping server to play on, given that i cant kick to make room for myself or clan why the hell would i or anyone else bother?

Agreed, it seems fairly pointless.... The point of hosting your own server is to make room for clan members. If someone gets booted for members, its their tough shit, there's a fuck load of non clan servers out there they can play on. The benefit to hosting your own is that if your server is full, you can make room for members - nobody has quarrels with that, except clearly devs :s seems bizarre to me.

Yeah, i see how people can abuse the privilege, but they get blacklisted easily enough.

Yeah this game has awesome potential but the devs aren't very smart when it comes to running a game. I wanted to host my own server but now I'm not feeling it.

I also am thinking on renting a Server from Defcon and I was looking at 25 slots until I read this - When you say 30 to 40 Minimum, why is there a lot from 10 - 25 and why over a 100 are private and locked? And they have been up for quite a while? And also to the guy who said "Why Host A Server" There are a lot of people who play this game and get very frustrated when Clans or groups hang on hills of every town and snipe anything that moves over and over again. Anyone with a sniper is 90% out for a Noob kill since you really dont need a sniper for Zeds, I truly love the game and I have never played any PC games until I saw Dayz on YouTube and I ditched my Xbox for a Alienware and plan on never going back - Thanks for one of the best games i have ever seen and played :) With a big smile

I'd just like to know WHY there are so many restrictions on server hosting? If you're worried about lower-quality servers, there's an easy solution: change servers. There's a server browser in the game for a reason - that's more than a lot of new games with their 'Quick Matching' can say (many newer games have skipped a browser altogether).

Some clanmates showed this game to me a few days ago. 8-10 of them had been playing pretty seriously for a while, and they wanted our organization to begin supporting it as a title (as a multi-gaming clan we support around 4 other games presently, though our members all play several others together). I tried it out (bought the full game just for the free DayZ mod) and liked it, so we're looking into getting a server.

Now I'm seeing all these restrictions and ... wondering if I spoke too soon. We would LOVE to have a 40 slot server, sure. But being that only around 10 of us are active in the game at the moment, we want to 'try our luck' on a smaller server, then possibly expand to greater slots later. I'll be paying for the server - and would rather not spend extra money for extra slots if we decide in a week we don't even like the game anymore. 20 slots is enough to have room for our members and some pubs.

I understand the devs feel that smaller clan-based servers can take away from the 'every man for himself' idea - but just because we're a group of friends doesn't mean we're going to band together. I want to play WITH clanmates, NOT necessarily ON THE SAME TEAM.

I know the devs have mentioned that a 5-slot server uses as many resources as a 50-slot on the master server. Sure, reasonable - but if the amt of servers attached to the mod is an issue, perhaps some code around that should be adjusted. I believe one of the staff mentioned that population jumped up from zero to 60,000 in a period of weeks - that's terrific, and I'm happy about it. But if you can't support that many people, you can lose just as many people in half the time - especially with competitors to DayZ coming out soon.

So, tldr:

- If someone feels like they're getting camped on a server, or don't like the people - it's not hard to change servers.

- Allowing a clan to maintain a server means you have a more dedicated 'staff' to kick/ban problematic players.

- Allowing smaller slot servers means more people are encouraged to use your mod, and thus more publicity (and potentially cash) for the mod and devs.

P.S. I also have qualms about the naming requirements on the servers, but that issue can be raised later.

I'm tempted to start my own server - running on MY computer - because providers (mostly HFBServers) don't keep their systems current. HFB is now 2 days behind the curve; I can't even get into my server when I back-update my client to 95054. Of course, I'd need a T1 connection and be able to sell other servers to justify the cost of the T1 and the large computer and solid state drives to run it. Then, too, there is the MASS cheating that BattleBlindEye can't seem to find. Tonight, I spawned into a server with a downed jet burning about 100 yds in front of me North of Elektro. Add to that the many deaths I've had recently with hackers using ESP or teleporting and it's just not that much fun anymore. And here I though BF3 was bad with about 50% of the ppl hacking. Sheesh.

I did the same thing, thinking that since Defcon servers *offered* the option of 10-25 slots for DayZ, that they were grandfathered in and were offering them because they were available. Sadly it was the old bait and switch and I was told that after the server was purchased, configured and I had several help tickets in that my server was flagged due to the server count. When I asked why there was even an option to purchase a DayZ server below 40 players, they said that their system can't be configured to not allow DayZ servers below 40 players. As if the buyer is supposed to know the limitations of their system. Even though they could have easily put in a message somewhere in the checkout process or somewhere on their website giving that warning. They darted around my inquires for a refund numerous times so I just gave up on them. Not a reputable host IMO. Again this is my opinion, your results may vary.
