Slyguy65 499 Posted March 5, 2014 So im sure some have thought of this but lets expand on it. Contextual options are those option you see on your scroll wheel with certain items or objects. Now what im suggesting here is that it would be cool to expand on that for things like combat and interaction as a whole. For example: 1. Having your fists up and near a person you have a couple options; such as, strangle or tackle, or maybe even attempt a knock out. And for the non hostile options we could get "drag body" or carry body, or attempt to wake up if they are KO, ( a good slap can work IMO no need for drugs). 2. If we have a weapon in our hands, we should have a one hit kill option for when we are behind people, with any kind of melee weapon, or at least an attack that causes bleeding from an artery and they bleed out soon enough, this would make killing animals, humans, and zombies more interesting.(honestly zombies need more durability it should take multiple attacks to body and one hit to head with melee and ranged weapons, that way this one hit KO would be more effective and used) Also if you have a weapon out you should be able to KO someone with the bunt of the weapon if you scroll wheel next to someone (non lethal FTW). 3. Im sure this will happen but more options between different objects and such, im sure this will be in the future, but I thought i would throw it in for good measure, you know just more options with more items, like being able to use duct tape on stuff (duct tape should be the bread and butter in a situation like this, and it needs to be reflected).
Zalvager 51 Posted March 5, 2014 Sounds good. I feel like it would encourage group travelling. Having some ruthless bandit sneaking up behind you with a roll of duct tape, knocking you unconscious with a t-shirt soaking in chloroform would add a sense of constant paranoia in populated areas. Especially on hardcore servers.
LaughingJack (DayZ) 767 Posted March 5, 2014 Good stuff imho, would fit he game and add a nice layer :) More melee attacks: Yes. And give the Zs the same options ;) Especially tackle and "cling" (with ragdoll it would be awesome...imagine one clings on your hand and you cant fire your gun, because the arm is shaked, you can only punch with the free hand XD...or clinging to your body/feet makes you slower (limping?)...ah, the possibilties ;))Only "strangle"...well...i'm not sure about that. It makes sense, but I'd think its hard to implement in a PvP...And i want a "knockout" option when i have a stone in my hand ;) Afaik Hicks was asked about "one-hit-kill-attacks-from-behind" and his only answer was "Don't tell Dean about that"....so...well...maybe? But if, not soon I guess ;)But may also be hard (determine, where the other player is facing, is/was he moving etc.) , but i guess it could be possible. Maybe only with small weapons (machete, knife etc.? Would a) give them more important role and b ) from authenticitycutting a throat with an axe could be hard & swinging it may miss or the guy hears the swoosh and you don't hit perfect...) Yes. Tougher Zs. I loveexperimental respawn and sound attracting already;) But these beasts can be tougher and even more dangerous ;) Hell, mod was classic when you fought 2 zeds, and one hit you and broke your leg....deathtrap XD And "the more use for items on stuff" - I'm excited to see what the crafting system will bring ;) If it's built up like the devs said (in a way that they can expand it very fast an easily) there will be a lot of fun with duct tape XD
doctorwhy 157 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) Indeed! Awesome Ideas.Things that would make it work. Stealth really works on zombies and when crouched it would have to be really really hard to hear for other players (feint) but maybe slow you down a tiny bit more. Maybe a toggle between a quick crouch for combat and a stealth crouch. Edited March 5, 2014 by DoctorWhy
tommes 331 Posted March 5, 2014 Sounds like RPG. So no.
Karmaterror 982 Posted March 5, 2014 I like it, really like using the butt of the gun to do a less lethal. For the one hit kill from behind, ok let it work on zombies most of the time, with a small chance to fail. But for players an animation could be played for each move or something. Then based on reaction time, maybe % chance aswell, they could break or even counter the attempt :) Hotkeying it could be good aswell. Maybe have books that teach how to do it with diff melee weapons. Then have some inventory icons to show what your proficient in :)
