I read some of the alert before I got the Alpha, I see a notice : bugs with animals go zombie sound => there are animals, but I haven't capture any of them...

[A litte more question] Can we shoot the birds to get food ^^ ?

there are some rabbits, but you can't kill them, and no you can't eat the birds
