Need some help with settings

Recommended Posts

So I just got a few computer upgrades yesterday and was looking for some advice on changing some settings around for better fps if anyone has anything similar and/or ideas.

Windows 7

Processor: Athlon II X3 445 3.1 GHz

8gb ram

GPU: GeForce GTX 660

(Any other info needed just ask)

I'm sitting around 25-30 fps most of the time out in the wild with it spiking up to 60 occasionally but not often. Haven't made a trek into a decent sized city yet besides Svetlo and we all know how bad that place is on frame rates (was only around 16-20 in there) but I've been playing around with some settings in game and nothing seems to make much of a difference. Is there anything I can try setting in the launch options that would make a difference?

Also, not sure if it matters, but I can't seem to overclock my CPU anymore than factory. Went into the bios and 3.1 is the fastest it's giving me and my motherboard apparently doesn't support the AMD core unlocking (regretfully) and I still haven't done any overclock on the graphics card

Thanks for any help in advance.

Your CPU will be the issue

Balancing between CPU and GPU

Any setting lower than high will use your CPU instead of GPU (graphicscard) and this can be very useful if you don't have a powerful GPU. Sometimes, setting values to high can actually improve fps since a GPU is alot faster on some types of calculations compared to a CPU.

The above quote was true for Arma2 engine and suspect it is true for Dayz now.

You want your GPU to be doing all the work it can..

Hey Facetentacles,

I posted in a similar topic earlier, I will repeat what I said there. Unfortunately there is no magic setting as we all have different hardware/rigs.

The best advice is to go through this thread - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/154330-possible-fps-enhancer/

Grab msi afterburner or fraps so you can monitor your fps first hand. Tweak away :)

Object detail and the in game rendering settings have the largest impact on fps, for me anyway.

Good Luck!

Yeah I've heard that as well. Bumped a lot of settings up to high and didn't notice much of a difference fps-wise but at least it looks prettier now.

Would be nice if I could overclock the CPU though. I'm looking into a new motherboard now since it tends to be cheaper than buying a new CPU
