More military-grade weaponry

i've used the search function and so far, i haven't seen a thread where someone has actually explained WHY we need more guns (badly) in this game

 

first, seeing everyone run around with M4 and Mosin is drab and kinda stupid.

gun variety is needed because:

1) people would have another thing to look forward to ingame, collecting rare weapons (getting "gun trophies"). this could be their own personal minigame inside dayz, getting rare guns before anyone else

2) people could also trade guns they don't need/don't have ammo for

3) more gun variety offers more weapon niches (like snipers for longrange engagements, submachineguns for closequarters, assault rifles for mediumrange combat, etc) which again allows individuals of a squad/group of people to specialize in different soldier/combat roles, and that again increases the need for individuals to coorperate/stick together

 

okay, but why more military-grade weapons? the way i see it, the high number of military camps that are looted by survivors for guns or gear is the reason. the former chernarus military wouldn't have used civilian/improvised weapons. that wouldn't have made sense. and seeing the large number of military bases scattered across the country, i'd presume a higher number of military-grade weapons in chernarus only makes sense.

 

it's logical the chernarus military used old soviet weapons, seeing how they were part of the soviet satellite states. but after the collapse of the soviet union in 1991, the chernarus nation could also have imported a lot of international weapons (maybe as a way to gain economic/military independence from the former russian ally). that also explains why the M4A1 is available in such large numbers ingame, for instance. so that shouldn't speak against the fact that chernarus probably imported more american/european weapons as well

 

then again, i am NOT saying that the total amount of weapons should be increased. in fact, i would like to see that weapons like the M4A1 or Mosin become even rarer. don't get me wrong, dayz SHOULD NOT BE TURNED INTO A SLAUGHTERFEST/DEATHMATCH SHOOTER GAME. i just want to suggest that more VARIETY of guns are added, not more quantities

 

having said that, here's a list of some of the guns i'd personally like to see ingame:

 

battle rifles:

SCAR-H (7.62mm)

G3A3 (7.62mm)

FN FAL (7.62mm)

 

assault rifles:

AUG A3 (5.56mm)

AK-74 (5.45mm)

TAR-21 (5.56mm)

FAMAS (5.56mm)

G36 (5.56mm)

 

carbines:

AKS-74U (5.45mm)

 

submachineguns:

UMP-45 (.45ACP)

PP-2000 (9mm)

MP5 (9mm)

P90 (5.7mm)

 

machineguns:

M60E4 (7.62mm)

M249 (5.56mm)

MG36 (5.56mm)

Type88 (5.6mm)

PKP (7.62mm)

RPK (5.45mm)

That's good,no need to double post.

While guns are good,there is work to be done concerning zombies,hunting,temperature etc.

Game is supposed to be a survival simulator but currently,it feels more like a big deathmatch.

So i say let's give them some space to work on more important things first right?

i don't say i want new guns tomorrow morning. i know this will take a lot of time making, maybe 6 months until i see the first gun out of this list (if i were lucky). this is something they should think about in the long run. the game is already getting kinda stale and the dayz mod had much more weapons. also, as i said i don't want to turn this game into a deathmatch

Won't happen, Rocket has siad that they won't add in military-grade weaponry like battle rifles. 

If you wanne play with these sort of weapons try DayZ Overwacth.

I know,i read you post.Problem is that it IS like a big deathmatch even with the limited weapons currently ingame.

Don't get me wrong but I feel like more weapons are an ultra low priority at the moment.

But personnaly i want a large variety of military weapons ingame and don't care about the "it's not realistic to have them" factor.

Although the ammunition to use them should be scarce.

doesn't really make sense to me why the full standalone game ends up with less variety in weapons than the mod

 

again, i need to stress that more weapon variety is NOT a bad thing. increasing the total quantity of weapons however is, and i am highly against the latter in order to not turn this game into a deathmatch CoD clone

Yet the fn fal (a battle rifle) has been confirmed....  So yeah, battle rifles ARE going to be added...

Exactly!!  Too many people confuse a larger variety of weapons (a good thing) with a larger total number of weapons (a bad thing), yet there is no garanteed coralation between the two...  Furthermore, huge numbers of people blame the current KOS gameplay on the weapons, rather than looking at the actual problems...  Like server hoping, very limited player spawn points, and general lack of other things to do...

You have to remember in the mod, Dean didn't add in every single weapon. Majority of the weapons were already in game. Granted Dean made a small amount of guns, but his options were to use the existing guns, or remake new ones from scratch. Keep in mind ARMA 2 is a Mil SIm, and the weapons are going to be military grade. Dean wants to get away from this in SA, he'd rather a WInchester 1866 than a FAMAS. Trust me.

okay, that makes sense. still, an M4A1 is HIGHLY military-grade in my view. rocket should probably remove it as well (or should have never brought it back) if he wants to get away from the MilSim character that his mod had compared to the standalone

i agree there should be more military weapons and equipment. as there would of been a military of about 80,000 to 100 000 troops of country of this size (rough guess going of the size of most ex soviet states military's) there would be a lot of AK variants PKMs  SVDs those kinds of weapons. there would also be massive stock piles of ammunition around the country. so there would be a lot more weapons and equipment then there are survivors and it would be all over the country at road blocks, hospitals , schools police stations anywhere that can create a HQ location. also there should be a large garrisons in this country as non of the bases or airfields could hold more than a sqn of troops.

This is a soviet-era Eastern Europe country, not America, where everyone has guns, those guns will never be in the Alpha, maybe the G3, the FN-Fal, but expect Russian weaponry

He siad he wan't it to be real not that you can find like a DMR with het vision on it in the fire station....

There will be military-grade weaponens but not does kind of weapons you name up there, i mean M60E4 really?

Yay, another thread about guns!

 

I'm sure, being a development studio that has specialised in military simulation games, that the last thing Bohemia need is advice on what guns to add to the game. I'm pretty sure if they have one avenue covered, it's the military side of this game. If however you have an equally eloquent post on something that has nothing to do with Bohemia's bread-and-butter (such as perhaps survival mechanics, or zombies, or persistent server mechanics - you name it) then I would be delighted to read it. In the meantime, might I petition you for the few minutes of my time I wasted here to be returned?

 

The phrase "Teaching granny to suck eggs" really comes to mind every time I see a post on these forums about adding military stuff.
