New player questions

Hey guys,

 

Just got the game today, and there is a few things i am wondering.

First of all, is it possible to choose what map you want to play on? I haven't been able to find out how to do that :/

 

And second, is there a way to bring up a map of some sort? To see where you are?

Seems like a cool game, just having some newbie problems :)

You can't choose your map, there is only one. You can see the map her http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus, press shift tap and choose web side to bring up steam bowser. You should probably also watch this

only one map to play on and you can loot pieces of the map (some of them can be combined to make a larger map) to carry with you in the game but there is no provision to tell you where you are. after many hours of exploring you get used to where things are and you shouldn't need a map at all - a compass (also lootable) is very handy if you have trouble navigating by the sun (stars at night) and landmarks. daddy always told my brothers to be better boy scouts, I was the only one that listened. good luck and welcome to the apocalypse.
