DayZ eating up bandwidth?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find a topic on this so I apologize if this has been mentioned.  Feel free to delete or merge.

Has anyone else noticed if DayZ eats up all their internet bandwidth?  There is times when I'm searching for servers that it just seems to take forever so I'll minimize to go browse and all of a sudden I can't even connect to a single web page.  I'll close DayZ down and after a few minutes everything is back to normal.  What gives?

Since you're a fellow Canuck, I will let you know that most ISPs in this country are actively engaged in throttling. Do you stream lots of media as well? I personally haven't experienced this issue, with regards to DayZ, but I do experience it from time to time when streaming Netflix or even downloading large files.

Well I have the 50mb connection through Shaw and I can usually stream, download pr0n :P (j/k), watch Netflix, play online all at the same time.  I don't actually do all this at the same time but I have tested it.  I've also noticed this with DayZ commander(unrelated to the SA, I know)

I am 100% sure this is not Desync as this is affecting my entire internet.  Also I am very well aware of the Desync issues.  I've been killed by the invisible hacker  (Desync)

  • Network: Inventory items causing desync due to non-guaranteed update spam (hotfix currently until guaranteed message change is complete)
  • Network: Optimizations to network messaging updates should result in reduced bandwidth and some increases in FPS for clients/server

From the 0.37.115791 patch notes. The current stable branch uses a lot more bandwidth than it needs to because there are unconfirmed updates being sent at all times. The more people around the worse it can get too.

I would suggest trying the Exp branch, but it is supposed to go Stable tomorrow anyways.

I guess, your provider will be like:

But seriously, I can't imagine, how DayZ can really crash your internet, if you got a good one. Im pretty sure, that DayZ doesn't need full 2mb/s. ...well..and I have to know, because I got way slower internet and don't struggle with DayZ's connection-efficiency.
