our map isnt "small" its not "balanced"

Recommended Posts

The map seemed pretty large to me when I was wandering aimlessly though the north-western wilds.

The map isn't small, but it isn't big either.

As a matter of fact, they're working on expanding it even further.

Is that why all the northern roads stop right at debug?

One reason the map seems small is because of the shitty loot spawn.  The biggest example is that magazines for the .45 pistol only spawn at firehouses.    Not a single fucking magazine spawns anywhere else.   ( the only airfield I try is north of Berezino and it has zero so I assume other airfields dont).   Unless .45 mags also spawn at the police station in svetlojarsk which I cant confirm....... Everyone and their fucking mother have to go to the firehouses in electra for a stupid magazine.

This shit needs fixing.   Has no one else wondered why servers with only two players seems to always be with one or both players in firehouse?   Because not a single fucking magazine spawns on the entire east coast to the top of map.   The airfield near krasnostav spawns every scope you want, but zero magazines.   The Dayz team is so clueless.

It does spawn in Hangers, Barracks, Prison building and ATC. I've had a character with 5 extra .45 mags before. I do agree that it's ridiculous to have M4s and FNXs spawning in coastal towns and the mags can really only be found at the military installations.

I'd like to see the much-talked about prison placed in the far west, where there's obviously the foundation for a large development (the huge plot of open land and roads near the westernmost railway station). They could surround the prison with fencing, lots of industrial sheds and buildings, some barracks-type places, guard towers, etc (maybe even some solar powered emergency lighting in the guise of floodlights), and lots of parking areas filled with damage vehicles ripe for parts looting. Have some prison-specific loot (body armor/riot control gear, the rumored stun guns, tear gas, etc). That, along with another couple of cities like the WIP "floating city" west of the NEAF, would do a lot to draw more people in from the coast. Places out west need at least one or two unique features, though; the cut-and-paste is fine for most of the villages around the coast or slightly inland, but it's not worth the run if you're only going to find more log houses or hospital/school buildings. How about a commercial airfield with a small terminal, a couple of hangers, some wrecked/stripped passenger planes, and maybe a larger, lootable plane (with medical supplies, flares, clothing). How about a small, minor league soccer stadium (as many have mentioned), with accessible locker room/shower areas, a vending area, etc? A ruined amusement park (yes, I realize it would take a lot of work modeling it, but they've doubled the team, so it's not beyond the realms of reason) ala Chernobyl? Even some overgrown playgrounds/parks would be a welcome addition (albeit for mostly aesthetic purposes).

As for expanding the map, I'd like to see them fill in all of the dead space first (within reason - we need woodlands for hunting and campsites). I'm sure they're not exactly foaming at the mouth to make new models, but, as I posted before, I'd LOVE to see something like a large-ish caravan park (shades of Fallout), an abandoned campground with cabins, etc. As for new expanded areas to the west, how about a proper swamp, or some actual running water/waterfalls in the mountainous regions? Maybe some caves, or large quarries?

Obviously, it's a sandbox and the kid in me wants to fill it with EVERYTHING, but I'm trying to think of things that wouldn't be out of place in an Eastern European country.

Then its a glitch no mags spawn at north east air field.   Im positive.

That's the area they will expand to. In fact, there is already an unfinished city up North in experimental.

Too many posts here that deserve beans.  I agree.  The map size is fine.  People just need to leave the coast - end of story.  There's plenty of loot to be had so long as you're not camping coastal cities or military bases.  People just need to learn to play this as a scavenging survival sim rather than a "balota & electro looting sim."

Not true at all. 45 mags most definitely spawn at the airfields, in the jail buildings and in the ATC. In fact, I almost always make it away from NEAF with at least one, as long as I can get there before anyone else has a chance to loot- and even then, the mags are so small, its possible the previous guy overlooked it. Maybe that is your problem- you just arent seeing them there. I assure you they spawn there.

Adding exhaustion, more infected to hide from(having to crawl/sneak by without alerting the hordes), getting hungry and thirsty faster from running would give a more sense of feel to the map being large.  If it wasn't for the fact that you can run full tit non stop without the fear of anything this map would be a lot bigger.

Is neaf the one above Berezino?  If so, then I can tell you I once server hopped it for two straight days and never once saw a .45 mag.  i found shitloads of every scope, gun, gear, ammo.   But not a single magazine for .45

Are you sure you have seen .45 mags there after last patch?    Im telling you.... Zero .45 mags are spawning at the airfield north of berezino .

I just realized you might be right they are maybe too small to see.   But I think I was thorough, but thanks for the possible reason.

The scrubbies will eventually get bored dying on the coast and finger out how to move inland.

First of all, they spawn there. I've seen it.

Enforce walking. Exhaustion for prolonged running. It is the answer. Yes.

Exactly... once stamina, more zombies, a weather system which affects the player and other balances are in place, going from one end of the map to the other will be far more time consuming than it is now.

We'll get there, current exp. build appears to have slowed down the speed you run (fists up sprint).  I'm all over the map, though mostly stay in the Northern half and it's a hike to move from the right coast Svet. to the West edge of the map if you're doing any rummaging in the towns, it will take you days to traverse.

Once loot is more randomized and folks aren't just sprinting to known loot spots things will change dramatically.  I have mixed feelings on adding vehicles at this point, though I will thoroughly enjoy the inferred quest of find parts to enable a vehicle.  I can see a backpack full of spare parts to make repairs as the wheels fall of the wagon.

There will need to be an associated risk with vehicles however.  Yo, dudes, jump in my jeep, only to see the damn thing go up in flames...priceless.  Omg...new skill set, mechanic/technician.
