I think I messed up my game.

Recommended Posts

I was doing some enhancements, and I messed with my cfg and profile files; I reduced my preferred view and view distance to 1500, and scene complexity to 100000, and now objects don't render until I'm like within 30 feet of them. I can't see if doors are open on buildings across the street. I was thinking, should I reinstall?

Is this in the .cfg file that's located in your My Documents folder?

If so, just delete the file and restart DayZ and it will revert to the default settings.

An easier way to do that should be that the OP goes back to the .cfg file and open Notebook, change the setting to, say, 150000 (which is what mine is set at) and Save.

The trees are blocky in the distance (quite a way off) but I can see open doors, etc. I can live with my settings because it does boost the frame rate in-game.

Just delete the whole folder.

Any time you mess with that stuff, deleting the whole lot won't hurt anything. DayZ will just recreate it all with the default settings next time you start the game.

I learned this the hard way when I was trying to kill my character while stuck in a death loop! :p

Any of the .cfg files in the My Documents folder it's fine to delete or modify as much as you want.

That's good to know.

Yeah, I tried to for deleting my character because obviously I was stuck in a death loop and I couldn't get anything to work. Deleted it, logged back in and nope... character still there, lol. I was so mad. :p

As far as I am aware, this works with a huge number of games that rely on My Document based .cfg files.

^ Talk about death loops. Here's a death trap.

I logged out once while standing on the top deck of the ship (yeah, I know, dumb place to spawn back to) and when I logged back in I'd spawned in a room below that deck. The room was fully textured but the door didn't work. I tried a few log-ins in a row... same thing. I googled "spawned in locked room" or something like that and saw that there's a spot on the top deck of the ship (lucky me!!! LOL) that'll spawn you in this hell hole of a room. Some folks committed suicide or waited to starve to death. One guy wrote that you need to mash "V" and hurl yourself against one of the walls and eventually you'll teleport into the room next door. It worked. I'm glad I tried 'cuz I sure didn't wanna whine to Steam about it and have those guys mess with my game account. I lost my Left4Dead game that way.
