Same steam account. Different computer. Different player.

Recommended Posts

I am outa town at the moment and I brought my laptop with DayZ Standalone on it. I am on the same Steam Account but when I started it up and joined a server it was with a different player. Is there a fix for this, if not I just need to know.

Was it the same server you had been playing on previously?

With the game being in its early stages I'd say you have lost character data. I think you might just have to start over.

Let me go on the server I was playing on previously and I will get back to you.

Please don't respond if you can't actually help.  There is absolutely no excuse for characters getting wiped or the database getting wiped at this point, no matter what you want to call it or whatever test phase we're in.  If we're going to have regular database wipes, I'll stop putting in 20+ hours a week on the game and wait until they're not.  Fortunately for us, there's been a whopping single database wipe, ever so far.

If you can't join a server you know your character existed on, and you know that you logged out and were alive the last time you were on your other computer, there's no reason you should have a new character.  I've joined bugged servers, that shouldn't be on the server list, that will always give you a new character upon joining, or "run the risk of deleting your character", but immediately joined a server from my history that was known to be fine, and never lost a character.

Character data is stored locally it seems. Not in a Steam cloud. Beans for avatar, fucking lol'd.

What this guy said, I've found that data (weapons etc) is stored in the ".vars.DayZProfile" file located in "My Documents>DayZ"

Your character is stored in "my documents/dayz"

If you went from a desktop to a laptop, your character will change.  Your old character will still be on your PC

Experimental (build 0.37+) saves to steam cloud.

The change of characters can only be caused by 2 things:

1. The database screwed up and reset your character.

2. You joined a server with a different hive. (Regular and Hardcore dificulty use different hives and the same goes for experimental servers!)

Your character is NOT saved localy. As long as you use the same steam account you used before and given you join a server on the same difficulty as before, you will play as your previous character.
