Is this normal?

I just logged on a server with normal latency on it,spawn without an issue or so I thought and I heard noises of footsteps and such but no movement,I noticed I couldn't take my rifle out,nor axe or pistol and I went into a room checked inventory and everything seemed normal,saw a player standing right next to the window but he wasn't moving and suddenly "You are dead" message and lost everything without a sound nor anything that I could say "oh damn I got screwed by this guy".

 

Is this normal even in a server with normal latency? cause it's pretty obvious it was some massive lag or desync or I don't know what that was....all know is that in my screen I died out of someone staring at me. lol

Looks like lag or desync. I have offten lag/desync in first min or two after enter on server. Best thing to check it is just click RMB on your item, if there is "reciving" then you have lag/desync.
