who else is excited about the recent tweet from rocket?

Recommended Posts

My reply was in context with an earlier exchange. Personally as the game as it is I don't really go chasing FPS. I'm at a fairly healthy 30+ no matter where I am in the map and that's on a 8320/7770 system running at 1600x900 albeit with most of the rendering stuff turned off. When the game gets closer to beta and the gun battles really come down to single digit FPS/ping differentials then I'll start tweaking everything, but as it is now the Alpha is just a bit too flaky to  go around desperately chasing the best configs. Life is too short.. ;)

Exactly.  I personally choose high settings just so I can get a feel of how the game is in it's current state and if it works, then I know it will only get better once beta starts.  And your 7770 is a pretty decent card, not the best but it still gets the job done.  I was running an HiS7850 prior to getting my new card this week but alas, DayZ killed it :(  Also, for $250 an R9 270 is worth the price

It is affecting everyone, with your specs you should never dip below 60fps, to what degree it affects people is debatable but the fact poor or no optimization impacts everyone is not debatable.

I picked up the game a bit ago and am using a converted htpc with a crappy ATI 6570 in a dell SFF with a 235 watt power supply. I get near your FPS out of towns. and I get the same crappy 10-20 fps in towns as people with rigs much much better than mine. Moral of the story is don't go buying top of the line hardware to play this game just yet and if you already have top of the line hardware its going to matter much less than it would in most other games.

Dude, it's an Alpha.  I know exactly what my performance should be and it's right on par with it being in an ALPHA.

It would really help if you did, it's my #1 most annoying spot alongside Stary. If it helps this is also the location and direction I used for testing:

CCR8XAe.png

It's like the only setting that makes a difference to me there is object detail, very low it's 26 FPS and very high it's 18 FPS. I even tried practically maxing the game out with similar results, my maximum FPS around the countryside was really the only thing affected (from 60-70 FPS down to 30-40 FPS).

Yeah this is one I try too, on my 760 I make sure I set it to 2GB instead of auto. I have also tried using the startup switches via Steam to manually set all the appropriate memory and CPU optimisations but, when it comes to Vybor/Stary/Cherno and others it doesn't seem to have an effect for me.

Wow vybor and stary are your trouble spots.... for me its cherno apartments and guba bay .. Id say i am getting closer to caboose level performance maybe slightly better..

Running I7 4770 k(@4.5) 24 gig ram( i run it off ram disk) 1 gtx titan yes i know a 780 usually out performs them but i find not in 3d yes i am crazy i like to run it in 3d ill likely go blind or get a brain anerisim lol.. Have you seen how sexy the inventory looks in 3d ( i use a 65 inch 3d led 200hztv as my screen.)

Stating its alpha and how performance should be is ignorant, I have been involved with many alpha games dating back to the 80s and have developed and launched many alpha Apps in my career.

Every alpha has its own set of drawbacks based on what the development/product team prioritizes. Its quit obvious the major focus here is architectural in nature as it shoudl be frankly. Who cares what the FPS is if you cant connect to a sever and play.

But nothing is more annoying that people who state ITS ALPHA DUDE to every single pointed out game drawback. If people didn't bitch moan and complain about various issues the product team wouldnt have the feedback required to prioritize effectively, I guarantee since BI's involment with the project the Dev team is not calling the shots, its someone on the product side, Rocket is simply a developer that is a PR face with a fan base. But the product team is prioritizing things and they are doing it based on known needs first, feedback second.

So keep complaining and pointing out issues people.

I stated what "MY" performance should be.  Not everyone's performance.  Learn to read.  And guess what?  People can bitch and moan about performance all they want, it will happen, just not a priority in this fucking ALPHA state.

So your just saying you had no expectations of performance because its Alpha, that's fair I guess. Its not a priority but its NOT BECAUSE ITS ALPHA, Its because they need architectural stability before they put any focus on optimizations. Being an ALPHA has literally nothing to do with it. I've played Alpha releases that ran like Swiss clock but had a whole host of other issues.

The Alpha Mantra is lame without context.

No, it makes perfect sense. The context was in the warnings I read prior to buying and playing. I understood it fully.

A sense of entitlement, even after reading the warnings and spending what could be considered pocket change, is lame.

Holy crap!!! Someone gets it.  I really didn't want to pull out, oh fuck it, WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING.

I was using your settings and resolution when I was in Elektro.

I actually get no difference in my FPS anywhere with ATOC on trees or off, it's quite weird.

Also guys, I just went back on my main character in Vybor where I get the most lag, even on an empty server it was still 18 FPS with object detail up and 26 FPS max with object detail on very low. No other settings seem to be affecting it again, nor does the server capacity as this one was literally 0/50 when I jumped on.

Edit: And just to sew more confusion I was still using my GTX 580. These are the specific, absolutely exact framerates I got on my GTX 760 last night.

Can't explain this at all. All I can say is that whatever the circumstances do cause this slow-down, even if you claim you never see below 30 FPS, Rocket's tweet shows it's a known issue.

Heh, just to check things out I turned post processing off and I get over 60 fps but I'll still use vsync as I only use a 60Hz monitor

I really wish they would make the ill health blur seperate from the other PP effects call me crazy but i am not a fan of many of them, the strange distance blur just looks whack to me but hey like i say thats personal prefrence...

One thing i would really like at some stage down the line is for all of the video settings on one screen in game instead of jumping through several. Small but annoying.

Experimental last night killed me in Elektro, even on poverty pack settings, worst i have seen it for a bit actually Disabling clouds is always my go to and the biggest winner on my end for playability and sometimes that is enough. Big problem seems to be it is so hit and miss even for people with nearly exactly the same gear.  I have got used to pumping it all up out in the open so i can enjoy the scenery, normally sits around high 30's mid 40's and then dropping it all down again as civilisation approaches.

Stutters and drops can be just totally game stopping sometimes and are the closest i have ever come to rage quitting a game :D Like mentioned above i also run a clean rig with minimum processes and like to keep an eye on what my hardware is doing if i am trying to find/solve an issue but after jumping through all of the hoops and tweeting all the bells and whistles on this one i have given up trying to tweak it and am waiting on the devs to throw us a bone.

For the record mine is an older rig..Win7 32 (hangs head in shame)  with 3g switch applied. i5 @ 3.33 Budget gigabyte board (total champion that just won't give up ) 4 gb no name ram, gtx560ti.  850 psu.

I would like to upgrade but i ain't shelling out any money until i have to, and atm when i see people with many hundreds more spent on much later and greater gear having the same issues, it just doesn't make sense to throw my money at the screen...especially when i can run everything else fine.

heh, at least you can run it.  I used to have a 560ti, loved it for it's time.  Just do what I do when I build a pc.  Buy it piece by piece.  Takes a while but it's worth it. and in the end, only spent about $1500 which does seem like a lot.

Hmm, I am curious... Would this fix actually work in ArmA as well ? If it does , BI is gonna be celebrating :P

I have looked at a bunch of newer stuff but i am waiting for prices to drop a bit more, i never buy current gen gear unless it is a bargain, learnt that lesson many many years ago when trying to get another averagely optimised game running decently.

Ya nor do I.  Not this past Christmas but 2012 I picked my i7 3770k and motherboard which is in my sig for $500.  My just recently bought R9 270X i bought for $300.  $250 plus taxes for the card and a two year warranty which was around another $25.  Using an old Antec 900 gamer case, badly need new one as my card barely fits lol.

I had to go to bed abruptly last night because I didn't realise I was on here until 2am. Did anybody get to visit Vybor?

I would have gone to Vybor but then I signed in to a server that started spouting off Christian mythology in the server messages and instantly wiped my character. I love how there's all this focus on a bug that only impacts ghetto rigs yet the character wipe, which is bug number 78 with around 800 upvotes is still killing characters? Can we blacklist the servers that screw us over or is there any kind of warning or any ability to tell if a server is running the correct software stack? No, instead we get a possible fix for a ghetto rig FPS bug. Forgive my inability to give a shit.

Sure buddy. This guy's "ghetto rig": i7 4770k @ 4.0GHz, 2x GTX 780 Ti SLI, 256gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD.

http://youtu.be/9ssjr36NKTE

And you say that like your machine is even anything special for gaming, you're hardly using that i7 and 16GB of RAM. I'll never understand why people overspend like that unless you're operating a gaming channel on YouTube or something and have to encode your videos quickly.

Also, what makes you think the people working on this have anything to do with the people working on server stability?

P.S. Just to be as much of a douche, I don't happen to get character wipes so it must only happen on pleb rigs. ^_^

It's truly an impressive demonstration of the Internets power as a medium for free expression of opinions that someone this ill informed hasn't had their modem forcibly removed.

Overspend? This shit ran me like a grand. I already had the cards from the previous rig, so I didn't count that in the initial cost. I wouldn't even consider it ideal as the cards are kind of dated. I just asked my teammates about the bug after that nonsense earlier and they said it's "a baddie issue" and Hall was on it (which I already knew) so finally I understood. Then I get spawn wiped by Jesus and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Ill informed? Best answer I have so far is servers don't configure hive settings correctly (which I've seen first hand, some hardcores hit the normal hive for example). If you've got some better explanation please share.

That put me right in my place. Now I feel just awful about having enough left over from mine to buy a 1440p IPS display.

Might be your problem. I run the game in 1080p.

I can play the game in lower resolutions too and I did test it at 1080p, unfortunately one of the symptoms of this issue on my ghetto rig is that most of the graphics settings don't actually change my FPS at all when I am in the specific situations that cause it. Including lowering my screen resolution, unless I lower it to something silly like 720p.

Naturally my first thought was CPU limitation but overclocking my CPU yielded not even 1 FPS improvement, so I just don't know. The only thing that literally seems to matter in that situation is object detail, but putting it on very low still only gets me from 18 FPS to 23 FPS in Vybor.
