How to deal with bandits

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, today I want to know what you all think is the best way to deal with bandits. I rarely have ever been held-up, mostly KOS'd then laughed at. But anyway, I feel I need to be prepared, I've started to grow bored with sitting in the trees and over watching towns (only ever counter-sniped one guy at Balota). Sooo, I've started to interact with players, we all know you can't tell whether someone really needs help, or is leading you to a trap. Most of the time if I'm asked for escort, I say no, anyway, I'd like to know , what is the best way to deal with bandits... As of now, I don't have any real solid plan, essentially, I live by a 'watch for 10 mins, then make contact' type of code, but again, you never know.

So, bottom line is, how have any of you, (if you have) been able to escape a hold-up, or fire fight.

Atm just always be on your guard even in the woods, and try to avoid other players.

I've managed to stay alive through quite a few robberies by just cooperating and essentially being nice. People are always more inclined to kill those who are acting "tough" so to speak or cursing at them and getting angry. Of course, there are people who will just blow your head off anyway so all you can do is hope they show mercy. If they say they are going to kill me, I will try and either run or take one of them out before they do. Better to go down swinging!

We all must learn to not care about our characters.  No matter what epic loot you find, he/she is going to die.  You can keep hiding, and running around but eventually death will consume you. Until there is some kind of reward system in place for not killing each other it is best to stay away from people you do not know.  It would be really cool if there was some kind of reward system like leveling up to a certain status if your player has been alive for a long time, and putting a mark on people who out right murder just for the fun of it.  This would encourage people to not shoot on sight a bit more.  Let's say a bandit who is a KOS kinda guy shoots a survivor that has been alive in game for 100 hours, that player loses ingame hour reward points and doesn't "level up" as quickly.  Not saying that people can physically see a change in another player but it would be nice to see a game where you can get attached to your character instead of just running around waiting to die.

Sure, this is the zombie apocalypse and a game, but all of the people involved came from the same civilization that has been ravaged by flesh eating Zeds... so, rewarding humanity would be a pretty epic thing to do.  Unless something like that happens, watch your back and trust no one. Ever.  The Z apocalypse is about the trials and tribulations of humanity, becoming primal and resorting to trying to survive a harsh environment without any of civilizations comforts... not becoming a mass murderer.

In the world's toughest situations we can note from history that people team up together to fight against all odds, so if a bunch of undead flesh eating zombies were attacking a city, in a real life scenario people would most likely band together and try their damnedest to survive.  While this is just a video game (and a damned good one), it reflects humanity becoming insane uncaring killers - just like the Zeds.  Sure, if this happened in the real world there would be some of those people - but they wouldn't last very long at all because of mob justice.

At the moment its virtually impossible to tell who is friendly and who isnt. Seems we have too many years of shootemups engraving the need to kill all and loot all most prevalent in gamer's of today. Video after video on youtube of groups of people with militarized mindsets, im just hoping the direction of this game puts that kind off and brings in more of a survival base where its more PVE and fighting off hordes of zombies both being the largest threats, of course having town v's town/community v's community kind of deal would be great however, but until that happens though and it develops further and there is more to do other than shoot and loot, gather eat and drink. Most will probably be KOS/bandits. Me and my lass are sticking to the quiet servers as the game develops keeping our fingers crossed for somthing for once, to be actually different. But my advice is if you want to avoid bandits, avoid busy servers until the game chooses whether it wants to be yet another rehash of the same old same old game, or, it wants to make you take part in your own episodes of the walking dead/dawn of the dead/day of the dead etc. :). praying for the later.

Then what's the point in playing? Why not just throw rocks at a wall instead?

I deal with bandits the same way I deal with white knights. One bullet at a time. Why would I want to help people? I'm not jesus, and white knights aren't really helping people by giving them cans of beans. They're just coddling them, making them soft, and turning them in to purpetual victims of people like me. That's my position, being a carebear is actually making the "new friends" weaker. The ultra militant white knights who attempt to sweep cherno/electro are just as violent as bandits, and should be regarded as bandits with a pretenous waft of fart sniffing. I see no difference between the two. Also, I already have a strike team, so I'm not in it to make "friends" (who are usually always backstabbers I should add).

Did you read everything I wrote? :/

lol.

Most people play to explore the map, get kills under their belt, find cool equiptment to kill other players with... there needs to be a little humanity.

If you see a player shoot him before he sees you. That's what it is all about.

Its ok guys, its just a game, bandits, friendly, two sides of the same coin, learn to not get attached to your gear, join a clan, much more fun to play with people. I've gotten killed many times, even by my own team, it happens. hiding in the woods may be surviving but its not fun at all, I did that for the first 50 hours and it was the most boring game ive ever played. Now im part of a group and we fuck shit up. Make your own fun, dont sit around, join a high pop server and shoot someone, what good is gear if you never use it. As there aren't many things you can do at this point I suggest you take a more action oriented approach to all encounters. Above all else have fun, its a game.

My friends and I actually came up with a great plan: move around on low-pop servers as a group to loot and gear up, and once we have everything we need, head back to the spawning grounds or high-traffic areas, hop onto a higher-pop server and set up our own trap for Bandits. If we encounter a Bambi, we give them a few essentials (food, ammo, etc.) and send them on their way. If we encounter Bandits, one of us pretends to be a Bambi (have nothing except a piece of clothing that will hold a sawed-off shotgun and some shells) while the others take up hidden positions watching the fake Bambi, and wait to see what the Bandit(s) do; if they attempt to rob or kill the Bambi, the hidden members open fire on the Bandits. If the fake Bambi is still alive when the shooting starts, they take out their sawed-off shotgun and start blasting away. Chances are, the way Bandits act in the game right now, that the fake Bambi will most likely die, but at least it won't be in vain. I do hope, though, that eventually there won't be as many Bandits, and the Bandits that are there will be more interesting than simply KoS. I think that this will happen as the game evolves, though, since KoS will get old for most people, especially to those who get KoS themselves after doing it to someone else. (I always keep that thought in the back of my mind when I die, that the person who killed me will eventually die to someone else.) If everyone just keeps on KoS, the game will get boring fast, because it will be the same process repeated over and over for them: gear up, kill people, take their gear, get shot, die, respawn, rinse and repeat. I doubt that many people will justify the money spent on the game by continuing to do something that bores them; they'll want to keep it interesting, and constantly KoS isn't very interesting after a while.
