Suicide option/respawn

Please, please, please, with sugar on top...

 

...give us the option to suicide or respawn, at least while the game is still in a rather buggy alpha version.

 

I was just playing on a hardcore server. New char, made my way North. Suddenly, while standing inside a building my car fell over. No Z nearby, no shot heard, I'm not bleeding. Just my legs somehow got broken. While walking into a table. Now I'm in the middle of nowhere, with broken legs. No Zs around to kill me, no players. No high building to jump down from. All buildings nearby are, of course, already looted.

 

This sucks.

People would just suicide over and over to get a 'better' spawn and creating that many new characters takes it's toll on server performance. The option to respawn while you're legs are broken wouldn't be a bad idea though.

suicides are coming dean has all rdy said they working on it, they have a rifle, pistol, and a knives one work on right now, if i can remember the link i will post it here with the info.

Also it hasn't been forgotten since them (if you thougth so, because the interview is from june 2013), rocket mentioned it on the Q&A livestream on 20.02.1014 as well and confirmed:

Suicide: Is worked on, Pistol & rifle & knife suicide is planned

We should have the option to delete a character, if suicide is somehow stressful for the servers. I fell through the map at the shipwreck and couldn't even drown myself.

If you end up getting glitched under the map as a new spawn, we don't want to hear you whining that there's no way for you to restart.

No, the option to suicide when your legs are broken is bad. Unless you're talking about shooting yourself.

I'm torn on this to be honest, as on one hand I think if you offer suicide you'll just have people killing themselves over and over in order to get a better spawn point. On the flip side, I have broken a leg early on in the game, miles away from any resources and on a server that had most of the zombies killed so no way of ending it.

Mind you, in you think about it realistically if you were stuck in the same position IRL there is no easy way to kill yourself either.

100% agree. Oly way I'd think about supporting it would be if it had some sort of delay duilt in, similar to the log timers. If you aren't in a server for more than 30 mins you don't get the option. There is no way in hell I want a feature that is simply going to be used to get a more advantageous spawn!

I understand the problem that a suicide option might be abused for cherry-picking spawn points. But I'm sure this could be circumvented by some kind of timer. E.g. suicide is disabled for the first 30 minutes of a char's life.

 

Once we'll see a more polished build with less bugs I'd have no problems getting rid off the suicide option again. But with the current alpha stage a suicide option is IMO an absolute must.

 

Oh, and don't start a discussion about "realism". I mean how often do you break your legs while walking in a house, or climbing a ladder? ;)
