Problem with .cfg fies

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I just got DayZ today, and am having an odd problem I've not seen anyone else mention.

Every time I re-load the game I have to re-setup all of my graphics/game/control options, and accept the agreements and everything.

A little looking around and I realized that in My Documents\DayZ , I have no files other than an empty directory Saved\mpmissions\__cur_mp.ChernarusPlus

I have found a copy of the contents of a dayz.cfg and have manually added them to My Documents\DayZ but they don't seem to keep any settings or any of the entries in the file (I set it to read only to make sure it wasn't being overwritten)

The game works fine once I log in, but there's still some oddities going on.  Does anyone have any ideas on how I could fix this?

Hi there and welcome to the forums. Have you tried changing your name? As that should force you to create a new one.

But just to make sure, as there are two locations where it could possibly be:

C:\Users\kichilron\Documents\DayZ Other Profiles\kichilron   <--- This is where your .cfg should be.

and

C:\Users\kichilron\AppData\Local\DayZ\

Thanks for the quick reply!

I tried changing my name, logging into a server, changing settings, and logging out.

I still have a blank directory at C:\Users\MyName\My Documents\DayZ

and my directory at %AppData%\Local\DayZ has the following:

BattlEye Directory - BEClient.dll inside

MPMissionsCache Directory - __cur_mp.pbo inside

DayZ.bidmp

DayZ dump file

DayZ.RPT

I tried moving the dayz.cfg file I created to the AppData location with no results

You do realise when you flagged the file read-only the game is also only able to read it? (afaik anyway) So if you change things in game the client might try to edit the file but is not able because it's isn't editable anymore.

Sounds like a permissions issue to me in any case. If you have Vista you might want to execute programs (steam/DayZ) as an administrator.

It should normally be created in C:\Users\MyName\My Documents\DayZ though, also the agreement (alpha disclaimer) thing popping up every start-up is intended.

Yea, me creating the file and making it read-only was only after several startups with no dayz.cfg created, I did it in the hopes that it would save things like resolution and such.

I'll try running as administrator, it's just odd that nothing is saving other than the empty save directory

Well, I've now tried running as an administrator, which didn't help either

Every time I restart the client it resets everything  =/

So far I've tried:  Verifying dayz files, reinstalling dayz, Renaming my in-game profile, running as administrator, creating a dayz.cfg file and placing it in known locations (both read only and not in both My Documents and AppData)

Also every time I log in I have to recreate my default toon, and nothing seems to be saving.  I played for a few hours with friends yesterday and got a few things here and there, then today when I reconnected I was back to the beginning again (Which didn't surprise me, just confused me a little)

I do have what may be an odd setup.  I  have my Windows library set to read from a home-based NAS, but I've disabled that functionality to see if the problem persisted (it did)

I'm really confused, and appreciate the ideas, I'll keep trying things till something works!

Some config settings don't save. SSAO for example, won't be fixed until next patch. Does the account you are running Steam/Dayz from have full admin permissions? Running as admin points all the userdirs to the admin's userdir which can result in a total clusterfuck.

Hmmm, interesting....

My user account does have admin rights, but there's no dayz related .cfg's showing up anywhere on my system

I guess this is just a random bit of random, hopefully I'll be able to find a fix soon =)
