peter_22 0 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) I just want to share my thoughts about "Tentbuilding" .I would love to see not only small tents that are not really giving you the feel of a shelter (so do dropped backpacks-.-).In such a scenario it would be normal that grouped up survivors occupie lone sheds or houses sooner or later. Safety is a basic need for any human beeing i think... So i guess i wouldnt be that hard to implement if you "pimp up" the textures of a small set of already existing buildings and let the players be able to gather material or something to make one of the houses of Chernarus their home. (again?^^) Edit: With occupied building i mean blocked doors and wildows with small holes for observating the surrounding area, one or two storage boxes depending on how big your house is, things to take cover on the roof for defending your and your mates "home".Maybe even lock up the door with a key that can be lootet or stolen from you. I hope my english is understandable. Edited February 23, 2014 by Peter22
Rekli 995 Posted February 23, 2014 If this was implemented eventually every house in Chernarus would be boarded up and no-one would be able to get loot, I'm sure Dean has touched upon this not being possible before.
peter_22 0 Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) With a fix number of buildings that are able to convert and an appropriate amount of time and work you have to provide... and it would be a great base for user-driven content like "tradehouses", "hospitals", "dont-get-to-close-or-you'll-be-dead-houses"... And the ability to lose your house gives the pvp at least one good reason to happen.Maybe the building turns back to standard after a while when no one is doing maintance n stuff. Korsbaek 1778 Posted February 23, 2014 Isn't this what Rocket wants? I'm pretty sure it's already been confirmed. I like the idea of boarding up houses.

Otis.Driftwood 204 Posted February 23, 2014 If this was implemented eventually every house in Chernarus would be boarded up and no-one would be able to get loot, I'm sure Dean has touched upon this not being possible before. There will be grenade launcher so you would easily blow up boarded windows and doors :)

Wili 156 Posted February 24, 2014 It will be nice to boarding up houses but we'll need to be able to put a lock at doors so we can enter and leave a house without the need of break in every time. It would be nice to put some permanent storage inside that buildings so you can use it as your home.
eric4483 32 Posted February 25, 2014 To be very clear do NOT go around saying "oh i think it's confirmed" and then 2 posts later say it's confirmed. FYI its not, not even close. Taking-over buildings will almost assuredly never happen with the only "base building" thats confirmed for above ground additions being things like sandbags and barbed wire, things already in the mod. Any kind of serious player created bases will be limited to tents/converted backpacks or underground bases (Which we will not see for nigh on a year) so hold your horses and check your facts! Chawktah 43 Posted February 25, 2014 I know barricading is about to be tested, but having the ability to fix up a house? Not sure if that would be a good idea. Anyways, I thought they were also working on player made structures. Like forts or what not.
Wili 156 Posted February 25, 2014 I know barricading is about to be tested, but having the ability to fix up a house? Not sure if that would be a good idea. But Why would you barricade a house if not for making a safe area and putting some stuff inside? I'm a bit worried about barricading, in the mod "barricades" were used mainly for griefing, blocking house entrances and such.
Otis.Driftwood 204 Posted March 23, 2014 It would be great to add barricades to road when they add cars but i'm thinking more like cutting a tree with an axe if there are trees along road.
SGT. Kalme 106 Posted March 23, 2014 No. I mean, there could be option to temporarily set up your base in a house, like put some planks or sandbags in front of entrances but no locking or building indestructible metal doors. That way you can make the house safer for yourself while you stay there, still having to look out for possible invaders but making it harder to break in. The wooden planks would be easy to destroy with say grenade or machine-gun but prevent people from coming in with just a pistol or assault rifle. So, some sort of option to block ways in could be useful but no permanent building in houses.
The_Monk 320 Posted March 23, 2014 DayZ Origins has permanent houses/fortresses. Adds a lot to the game and would be good fun in standalone. Origins needs less hero bias though.
entspeak 374 Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Early on Rocket mentioned that he wanted to have the ability to board up places as safe houses, back when he was first introducing the apartments in Cherno. He has since mentioned it again as recently as one of his drop-ins on Sacriel's stream. The ability to board up windows and doors is planned. He has also said they will not be doing basebuilding like it's done in Epoch and Origins. My hope is that, in addition to traditional tents, they add the ability to craft a makeshift tent - much like crafting the improvised backpack. Just need tarp, rope and a few sticks. And I hope they add caches, like what appeared in the mod. And that they add simple things like garbage bags, cardboard boxes to store stuff in. Then, you can take over a small house somewhere and keep your stuff in bags in a back room. Or keep them in your tent. Wili 156 Posted March 31, 2014 The ability to board up windows and doors is planned. That would be awesome, but with the current system this will become exploitable again because of the serverhopping, 1 character per server would fix that among many other exploits the current system has. thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Bording up confirmed. They are working on a way to fix ghosting into the base.I will be living in a Cherno apartment, with several outposts in every area of the map. thedogfoodyayho 295 Posted March 31, 2014 He has also said they will not be doing basebuilding like it's done in Epoch and Origins.Recently in the roadmap he said players would be able to "Lay foundations" and building on them. Sounds like origins to me.
entspeak 374 Posted April 1, 2014 That would be awesome, but with the current system this will become exploitable again because of the serverhopping, 1 character per server would fix that among many other exploits the current system has. They will eventually add a system for dealing with spawn in "player controlled areas" feature - this is mentioned in the roadmap. This will prevent server hopping behind barricades. As I understand it, though barricading will be added before the "player controlled areas" feature. This is one instance where I wish they would hold off on a feature. Barricading without the ability to prevent server-hopping past it will make barricading only useful for griefing. The only place it will work properly will be on a single server private hive.
