Recommended Posts

is it a bug or intentional, just asking

i've done so many kills and got killed because of this sound. we can easily tell someone spawned near us

The problem is that you SPAWN before you have loaded and most of the time you can't do shit for a while. Like switching to a weapon. I don't understand why the game doesn't preload resources and spawn you when everything is loaded. Your character is spawned "in loading".

I think it's another server hopper counter-measure.

And the loud static burst which often comes with it is for pinpointing direction, just like modern ambulance sirens...

ive heard the loud static when logging into stable servers, its like a sound glitch or something

but yeah the reloading thing is annoying, especially since you cant do anything while your game catches up

though i was wondering if you have to wait 30 seconds to spawn, are you spawned in during them 30 seconds? because if you hit esc you can see the area around you, but don't know if its just the textures being loaded or if its live

im definitely sure the static sound comes for magnum being loaded... a glitch of course.

i've tried many times with magnum.

magnum is the culprit for sure

I don't think it's 30 seconds if you're reloading a geared character. It's more like 10 for me before I can move freely.

Yep, I can confirm this.

Definitely annoying and potentially lethal. You shouldn't load into a server until you're able to control your character.

Pretty hard to code that into a live server I believe. Most other games, even COD and BF load your character before you can control it, but obviously you're usually sitting in the spawn before the round starts.

I have a Magnum (loaded) in my backpack, so this is what causes that? Interesting, will drop it and relog and see if it goes. Thanks

I hope its intentional, if someone spawns in near or beside you, its only fair.

it isnt fair if you know where i am, but i dont know where you are

Works both ways though, I like the reload sound despite its dangers.

It isn't fair if you server hop right behind me into a room that I've just cleared, either.

I think it is just a consequence of the way readding player inventory has to work. I'm assuming it is the same as in the ArmA games, here, but in those you have to add the weapon to the character first and then add magazines or ammo to the weapon. This then triggers the reload audio clip to play. I've tested this by removing mags and ammo from weapons before logging out and on relogging no audio of reload plays. YMMV.

NOTE: If you try to do this as a tactic on relogging, be aware that your gun WILL be unloaded (Duh!) and that hitting the reload button will still trigger the audio. May still be worth it for that stealth relog, though. But not being able to fire if the shit does hit the fan...

I like the reloading sound being an alert for someone logging in near you. Doesn't effect me as i log out in the woods to be safe.

Problem is there can be massive sound delay like 10seconds so I cack my pants thinking someone's near me before realising it was my reloading sound.

Its intentional.

I don't think the ear destroying burst of static I get logging in is however....

True enough, but The Arma engine in particular is rather slow to load characters. At least the SA is an improvement on the 15-20 seconds the mod would take me.

Even so, it would be fantastic if they tightened up the gap between the point where your character loads, and the point where you actually take control.
