The Reason for Hostility in DayZ

Recommended Posts

To answer this question, I need to explain it with a past experience:

So, I met this guy in a nearly deserted Berezino. I'm end-game geared and this guy has mid to low level gear. Rather than shoot him on sight, i greet him and give him supplies. He tells me he is a new player with only 3 hours of gameplay so far and wants me to show him the ropes, so i do. We go around the city for about 30 min while i I teach him a bunch of stuff. Eventually, I give him my spare magnum (cause he didn't have any ammo for his mosin) and a few rounds. 5 min after that, he shoots me in the head while I'm killing zombies and says: "Ya, I have like 120+ hours on DayZ . Not 3."

This kind of behavior is worse than KoS for me, because we had already established trust and eliminated any hostility between us. This was a case of backstabbing plain and simple. This was the first time I met someone on my own so I decided to be friendly. Almost every other time I have played I have been with my friends and we have always kept a gun pointed at the person, handcuffed them, or shot them. I never understood why the guys in my group would always be so hostile. They would just tell me they've had shitty experiences and no one could be trusted.

For all those out there that wonder why there are so many hostile, KoS players, it is because of assholes like the guy i met who back-stab friendly people.

:beans: Welcome to DayZ  :beans:

It wasn't your first mistake, but it was the biggest...Giving him a gun and ammo to shoot you with it.

I think another reason is atm there is no reason not to KoS. The zeds are pointless atm and there is no reason to work together since theres nothing to do but pvp and the fact the KoS has no consequences only benefits of looting them and not dieing.

lol.. I have ALWAYS told everyone I meet that I'm a new player. You find out a lot about a player really fast by doing that.

There are no consequences for your actions. That's it. Half the time you don't even know who the other players really are to avoid them in the future. Welcome to the all new DayZ.

Oh there are plenty of reasons to work together.  First one that comes to my mind, Loneliness.

Also, there are people out there that do things other than KoS or general killing.  Peak in teh Gallery section (its the one below this one).  Lots of good stuff there.

People change when they get weapon in dayZ. If you want to help them do not give any weapon, just put your stuff on ground like rice bean or something like that and move away. Lasty, as Dr.House says                               '' Everybody Lies ''  ;)  ;)

Mmmmmm, giving guns to strangers is probably a shoddy idea.

A fresh spawn once walked up to me while I was fully geared. I waved and he said, "You seem like a nice guy. Could you give me a gun and some ammo?" I said sure, no problem. I gave him a magnum.

Then I said, "Here are the bullets" and shot him in the face. I then went on my way.

Its also very easy to obtain anything you need, I think boredom comes into play here too. Im not saying that I am bored, I wont play it if I am. Just some people definitely get bored and go "Hunting" for anyone or anything.
