How do I epoch?

Alright, I've jumped back in and been playing some 1.8.0.3 because I can only play so much standalone as there's not much to it so far...

 

 

It seems that Epoch is quite popular. I run my Dayz's on Steam and I'd like to give Epoch a try.

 

Presumably I have to download something... somewhere... and then connect to a server of some kind.

 

1. How do I get the necessaries to play epoch?

2. Will it mess up my ability to play 'vanilla' Dayz Mod (overwrite files, &c.)

 

I have never been able to get sixwhatever or dayzcommander or whatever to work and they seem to have shovelware attached.

 

How do I epoch??

Dayz Commander ist the best choice afaik. But Epoch isn't really that good if you want to experience some hardships since it's just collect 100 guns run to the safe market and sell it. then grab a big gun for it.

So far nothing really is challening in Epoch you could literally find everything you need in minutes but it also depends on how the admin set up the loot tables. I had shove up your you know where vanilla servers and i also had more "hardcore" vanilla, origins, sahrani and epoch servers. But the longer you play the more boring it gets when you have everything. I'm playing Epoch Napf on a russian hardcore ( no 1st p ) server atm and i must say from what i have gathered so far the admin seemed to know what he was doing. I didn't find any armalite yet...not even an AK because i haven't been to a military base yet but at least i found a ton of makarovs, a winchester and a M870 and was lucky enough to find a tent. There was your occasional M1911 and revolver lying around to add some flavor there was even one M9SD!!! even the most basic things were harder to find. I needed a while to get most of the toolbelt items where on the normal servers i had everything after a run through Cherno or Elektro.

So far the Origins build system interests me quite a lot but it makes no sense trying to build a house all alone because i had a hard time finding the stuff and hauling it around and it wasn't even 10% of what i needed for the first stage and the most important tools were still missing.
