"MMO" disconnect timer

Recommended Posts

It's an attempt to counter server hopping and disconnections. I think I saw a similar system in Aion?

- When a player decides to leave, a timer appears. Say 30 seconds. During those 30 seconds you can still hide/move, shoot, die, etc... But when the countdown reaches 0, you're disconnected.

- If a player ALT+F4, the same timer happens, and the character is still present in game, even if the game is switched off.

If you want to switch servers, the same timer appears.

Thoughts?

Agree completely. Also I think that it should be impossible to logged out with the "Shock" status effect (Received by getting shot at by player).

There's a system in place already where the player remains in his current position for a short period of time after disconnecting. I think what you've outlined is a much prettier alternative, and I'm completely on board with it.

tl;dr: Worse version exists. Yes, good idea.
