So I have a simple but important question: If I purchase the early access on steam, will i have a copy of the game when it is launched?  Or will I have to purchase a legit copy like everyone else?

You can buy it now but be warned that this is "Early Access Alpha" therefore full of bugs and glitches.  You don't have to test the game or even play it but it is worth the price and, imo, worth the testing.  I haven't touched any other game since playing the standalone.

Also, it would help the devs with funding and bug reports!

On a side note... Doctor, where did you get those fashionable surgical gloves?

help the devs with funding?

AHAHAHAHA

maybe he will help them sponsor their own private island on the caribbeans.

50 million dollars is enough to sponsor dayz for the rest of its development. with this amount of money they could easily hire more people to help them and make things go faster, but they didnt. greedy bastards...
