''Realistic'' features in Alpha

Recommended Posts

This is something I've been thinking about for some days now.

In my opinion, things like sickness, hunger and thirst, yeah, I can play with those, but things like heart attacks and fall damage+weight of gear+height, and keeping a diet and stuff like that? No, that's way too much, I could only accept it if it works FLAWLESSLY.

I suggest the dev team + Dean, to fix bugs, flaws in the engine and other problems before implementing such complex features as the ones I mentioned above. I mean, updates in this stage of DayZ should contain (in my opinion, again) fixes, improvements of the gameplay and basic features (hunger, thirst..) and new items.

Implementing complex systems like this in a game that is bugged in it's core is not going to bring any good. I myself stopped playing the game, simple, I have 130 hours logged in, each time I try to gear up I get my legs broken my walking around, exiting a house, or walking in the firestation, since the last update, and now you're implementing heart attacks.

(I've been playing alone the last 20 hours because my group left DayZ long ago because they were bored of "Running Simulator 2014", but I still have hope in this game)

I simply don't give a fuck about some people here who say to be "hardcore gamers", who say all of that ''ITZZ ALPHA" or "BEING PART OF THE EXPERIENCE OF DEVELOPMENT IS GREAT AND FUN", I don't want to hear any of that, I know what it is, the first day I bought SA I DID READ that window from begging to end TWICE.

(Also, this community should be nicer to people who are new to Standalone, you want to atract players to this game, not drive them away because they asked a "newbie" question, I also agree that sometimes they really repetitive).

Sure, it is fun, but Dean, dev-team or whoever the hell reads this, you want to keep this playable AT LEAST IN THE STABLE BRANCH, because it is NOW when DayZ is getting the attention of the gaming community, NOT AL FULL RELEASE, now, you see I only knew about Arma 3 when it's Alpha went out and I didn't know ANYTHING about it untill I myself bought it a week ago because I could no longer stand DayZ, so you want to keep the people playing, not going away, Alpha? Sure.

But I suggest you make the Experimental Branch your testing playground for complex and realistic features untill all the major flaws in it are gone.

Just my 2 cents.

I have broke my legs once to a glitch in my 120+ hours. I have never broken my legs otherwise. If you don't play it, why are you even concerned at this point. Why not impliment all the features you want in your game, and fix them. At least their semi-stable. Nobody was ever actually meant to play an Alpha, but at this point, they are becoming massively popular. People judge the game, off of something that is nothing like what the full, independant game, it will become. Everyone is going to "go away" for a little bit, even I did. I take little breaks for a week or two, but I do come back and play for 5-6 weeks. I enjoy the game, and even in its buggiest form. It just makes you think, if the alpha has accomplished all this, and its JUST an alpha, this game is going to be amazing in the end.

In a way I agree, defo about keeping the stable branch....well....stable lol. But those complex features are a must have, and I do think its best to get them in early with the most time to iron out bugs and make them work flawlessly as you say. I know the original idea for Dayz mod was a pure survival game, zombies were only added to make it more "mainstream" and probably to be a constant threat to the player. With tat in mind im not surprised R is going for some really in depth systems.

I like to play for survival, not just to shoot people. But as in the mod, its just too easy atm. With any luck these systems will move survival to the forefront of the game, instead of pvp and stuff.

If your bored of the SA....and I can understand why atm lol. The mod is always still out there, and that's got vehicles and basebuilding. Now when I swapped back over il admit....it felt old at first. But if you can stick it out, get geared....then that's where the mod still wins over SA. Now your geared and have options for things to do. Should I fix a car...or look for a tent....find a heli....go look for other peoples camps. All of that will come to SA in time but for now I agree with you, once your geared, its painfully boring and "running simulator" is the best description :)

Um, that's the point of an alpha test.  To test the functionality before the release of the main game.

You knew this was alpha before you bought it.  Nothing is going to work FLAWLESSLY.

Well apparently not, or else you wouldn't have made a huge rage post about how functionality in an early access alpha test isn't perfect.

Would read again?

I sort of agree with OP and sort of don't.

There is a fine line between fun and frustrating. Being thrown from a ladder for no reason falls into the frustrationg categorty. But thats Alpha stuff.

In the final game if you need to eat fruit to keep healthy and take the kids to school and do your tax return form and go for prostate examinations, then it does stop being fun.

There is being a challenge and being obtusively tedious.

Dark Souls gets the balance perfect.

Apart from that...are 3 "realism"-threads on page ONE not enough? That's beyond "I can't use the search function"....

I suggest the dev team + Dean, to fix bugs, flaws in the engine and other problems before implementing such complex features as the ones I mentioned above.

Look at my signature. Now back to me. Now back to my signature. read it. carefully.

"In this stage of DayZ"...yeah...because it wasn't everywhere to read that Dean Hall said "DON'T buy this game now if you want to play. Only buy it, if you want to help developing." ...

Sure, it is fun, but Dean, dev-team or whoever the hell reads this,

*giggle* yeah. They read every thread, every post in general discussion. Right after they poured hydrochlorid acid in their pants.

you want to keep this playable AT LEAST IN THE STABLE BRANCH, because it is NOW when DayZ is getting the attention of the gaming community, NOT AL FULL RELEASE

Don't tell people what they want. That's rude. And a stable branch of an Alpha is...looks to his left....looks to his right....*whispers* still Alpha.

But I suggest you make the Experimental Branch your testing playground for complex and realistic features untill all the major flaws in it are gone.

Nope. Well in some point youa re right here, because Dean said earlier that there will be less updates from experimental to stable (and I hear the whining begin...) and more from internal to experimental which stay there longer.

To conclude:

You can't read, because otherwise you would have seen the other "realism" threads on the freakin first page.

You can't search, because otherwise you would have found even more threads concerning this topic.

You said you read the Disclaimer for the Alpha, but you come here and cry exactly about the exact thing that was said before and written there.

You want the game made your way.

And you expect somebody to be nice? ...wow.

I believe he was asking what they do in DayZ my friend.

I would expect it to cause issues. The inability to run or sprint. Slowed movement speed. Probably blacking out or having difficulty aiming due to breathing heavy. Collapsing from pain. Things like that.

Just my 2 cents.

Really not sure what your point is in this post, it's pretty much just you describing the state of the game as it. But then requesting the developer's to stop sleeping and cram more features in.  What I don't quite follow is you complain about people saying it's alpha but take issue with it being in alpha, to me it seems your trying to rule out anyone who would criticize you for criticizing the alphaness of this game.

Expecting thing's to work FLAWLESSLY well I think that shows exactly how little you understand the development process, I don't know where you live, but I want you to go to the firing range and get your hand's on a gun you've never fired and get all bulls eye's, also I think you should join every major sports team because you'd make a killing being able to do everything perfectly the first time.

The experimental is exactly what you described, do you wonder why they are taking so long to put the current patch onto stable, because they have found that previous patches weren't on experimental long enough, and players aren't reporting bugs as they should (assumption after trying to find stuff in the bug tracker) which is making the dev's job harder, if you'd like the game to work perfectly or as close as they can get it, then use the bug tracker and file those reports

I understand your frustration, there is a lot lacking in this game, but that's not a concern of mine, it doesn't bother me because I love the content already in and after seeing the things planned for this game I'm feeling pretty damn good about it, when I get bored of it I simply do something else.
