Real talk (game manual)

Recommended Posts

Sooooo is this game going to have a manual or some kind of official index upon release? cause honestly the health system is complex and crafting will become more complex too so it would be nice if official indexes existed but honestly i feel like the game wont have any official guides.

I dont mind data miners looking up values in files and making utube videos but for the newer players it seems unfair for them to have to dig around on how the game works.

Data miners enjoy doing that stuff though.  It gives them a better understanding of the game.

I hope reasonable measures will be taken to send data miners home empty handed. I'm getting tired of this trend to wikifying every game out there. They spoil their own enjoyment of the game by boiling it down to it's bare mechanics (which is silly in a game ment to be played as an experience). And spoil everyone's discovery in the process :)

i know they do im talking bout the new person wanting to know how the game works and having to go to 20 different sources to get info. i think the wiki would be great if the devs made official postings on it

I am, and I am not. They have good and bad points.

For games that have crafting it is sometimes nice to be able to look up  outside the game what you need to craft X of whatever so you can compile a list of what you need and work towards that as a goal for the game. If you are about to spend a lot of in game currency on something and can't see any sort of stats on it... well.. it's hard to make an informed decision and this is where wiki help again. However some of the, "To solve this puzzle match up the symbols showing, if it goes XXY then the solution is to turn it 3 turns to the left and one to the right." I used to tick off my friend by running ahead of him in Dungeons and Dragons: Online and flipping puzzles around so it was actually random and you couldn't follow the wiki. Then we had to sit down and actually solved the puzzle (which all of them were solvable with LOGIC) instead of performing a rote action from a guide. ;)

They won't. Rocket's take on things is you should go into the game and figure it out. Probably the main reason I bought the Alpha was so I could get at least SOME of it figured out before the rest of the world came along and told me how I "should" be doing things.

If you have to visit 20 different sources then you are doing something wrong and probably shouldn't be playing video games.  Seriously though, I am sure there will be a wiki page with every bit of info a player will need by time the game is officially released.

i get the fig it urself thing but eh idk i just think it would be nice if people could get a starters guide with the game cause honestly i just see the game being/staying a niche game without some sort of initial help for new people, when the game officially releases with i mean at least minecraft has creative mode where u can mess with everything dayz doesnt really have that. So an official starters guide would be nice balance

I can only hope. The mod gives you a pretty good view of what "mainstreaming" DayZ means. No thank you to easy mode "I spawn with a full kit.", self blood bag, "those that donate get special gear" DayZ.
