Fieldbert 0 Posted February 18, 2014 I apologize if this conversation is elsewhere. So first things first, yes I know it's an Alpha and I'm cool with that. No drama. Just curious...I'd go hunting for loot for a few hours, get a good haul. Call it a day and leave the server (via ESC then exit). A day or so later I'll turn it back on and in the main menu ill see my dude with all the kit on. Yet when I start up and join a server my backpack will be gone, sometimes my trousers, sometimes my weapons. So my question is, is anyone aware of why this happens? Is there a safer way to exit a server? Should I rejoin the same server the next time I play? Do you exit the server hidden in bushes? In a house? A hut?I know as an Alpha it's constantly evolving and issues are second nature but I'd like to take measures to preserve my hard workCheers!

The one time I died after logging, I had no character in the main menu. I'm no expert, but I personally don't think you were killed while sitting. If you spawn on the coast and say "this isn't right." the only thing you can try is to leave the server (without moving or selecting anything on your new character) and try a different server. If your character information failed to be retrieved from the hive the first time, you can manage to not overwrite your character if you don't move. As far as logging out, there really isn't too much danger yet. Last time I played I logged out in a random bush in Elektro, normally I just pick some building. I think it will be much more dangerous when zombies respawn and their numbers are increased. Just literally make sure the area around you has no players, and there's not a zombie nearby, and log out. twinturbonet (DayZ) 294 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) Another thing to note, if you connect to a regular server you will have a character there. If you connect to a hardcore server, you will have another character saved there.Just in case you have a character in regular and decide to switch to hardcore and are surprised you "started all over again". Fieldbert 0 Posted February 18, 2014 I've not yet tried a hardcore server, what's the major differences? Thanks for the replys. I guess my issues can probably be attributed to alpha rather than human error
General Zod 1118 Posted February 18, 2014 After you exit the server your character stays there for 30 seconds doing nothing, in that time some one can take your stuff, restrain you or kill you. Solution :Leave your character in a safe spot :Hidden in a bushes for example, avoid logging of inside a city in the open and in popular buildings.

I've not left myself far away enough from danger and I've probably been pillaged whilst logging out!
