making dayz work on my pc

Recommended Posts

Hello, I just purchased the alpha version of dayz last weekend and spent time tweaking and configuring my machine so that the game will work. The graphics are fine, my pc can handle 1080p resolution, I can see a great texture and details in the game but the issue is the movement of the player is very slow. I already followed optimization suggestions, adjusting the video configuration to low, disabled some settings so that it will increase fps, but no luck.

Here is my pc specs:

  • Processor: Phenom X4 3.0ghz quad core
  • Memory: 4gb (i'm planning to upgrade to 8gb)
  • Hard Drive: SSD
  • Graphics: Radeon HD 4200; 512mb
  • OS: windows 8.1 with latest patches, latest ati video drivers, latest catalyst control center set to high performance 3d settings

Any suggestions on fixing the issue?

Thanks

invest as u planned in 4gig more ram and a decent graphics adapter like ati r9 280 generation.

yes, ati is the future of gaming!

Get a better Graphics card ... 512MB for your Graphics Card is a little weak for a game like this.

DayZ Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 SP1
CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Athlon X2 2.5 GHz
RAM: 2GB System Memory
GPU RAM: 512MB Graphics Memory
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB or AMD Radeon HD 3830
DX: DirectX 9.0c
HDD: 10 GB Free Hard Drive Space

DayZ Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows 7 SP1
CPU: 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5-2300 or 3GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
RAM: 4 GB System Memory
GPU RAM: 1 GB Graphics Memory
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 7750
HDD: 14 GB Free Hard Drive Space

Minimum means pretty much that ... run it at low resolution and low detail ... etc.

He really should get a dedicated GPU BEFORE he gets more memory... and, high end ATI cards do have decent resell value, right now... Their prices are a bit unreasonable for the performance you get, I think, though. Damned litecoin...

VRAM is far from a determining factor in how well a GPU runs. But, 512 would be bare minimum for DayZ. It's the fact that his graphics card is integrated that makes it shitty for DayZ

Only thing u can try is lower res and change video memmory from auto to fix 512.

then in profile file

sceneComplexity=200000;
viewDistance=1000;
preferredObjectViewDistance=1000;
terrainGrid=50;

Or you can try the experimental patch, pretty sure they were saying people with integrated graphics would see a large performance gain with experimental and next stable patch. (but you really should get a dedicated gpu :P)

I got DayZ Standalone running on a Crapple BookPro
i7-3520M - 2.9GhZ (2 Cores 4 Threads)
Intel HD4000  Graphics
13" 1280x800
8GB RAM
5400rpm drive
Windows 8.1 x64

DayZ.cfg

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead="1";

FloatingZoneArea=0;

sceneComplexity=100000;

shadowZDistance=100;

viewDistance=1000;    // play with this add 100 or so each time till you find a sweet spot.  No less than 1000 no more than 2000.

preferredObjectViewDistance=1000;  //same as above. But make sure it is EQUAL or Higher than viewDistance

terrainGrid=12.5;     // other options to test.  32.5 & 50.

bloom=1;  // or 0

rotblur=0;

Steam > DayZ Properties > Set Launch Options

-nosplahs -noPause -world=empty -cpuCount=2 -exThread=3 maxMem=7168 -maxVram=512

I've boosted my ViewDistance/ObjectDistance to 1500 recently.
It works out just fine except around Cherno..  That area just melts anything for some reason..  10-20fps.
Even my higher end Desktop just crawls in that area.

I doubt he has a laptop with a Phenom clocked at 3.0 ghz AS WELL as windows 8...

Could be wrong though

Sounds like he has a store bought (premade) pc, if I was OP I'd just buy all new parts except the ssd and build my own pc.

Thank you I will try this. But i will be looking for a dedicated GPU as most of you advised.

I built the pc myself, primarily used as a media center. I will get a dedicated gpu. Memory is now upgraded to 8gb but did

not fixed the issue.

Thanks for all the reply and advise.

I'm just wondering that even though i met the minimum requirement, set all the settings to low, still the movement of the player is very slow.
