Making wood from trees with an Ax

So I just had a nasty experience, which caused me to commit in-game suicide. I broke my legs, after not being able to get up stairs, several attempts to drown myself...which worked, but I wasn't able to respawn..., I headed into the woods to try to do the common sense thing. See I had an ax, and there are a ton of trees out there. I walked up to one and hit it a few times, no wood. Why no wood? With the in game "crafting system" shouldn't I be able to make wood from trees? It only seems like something like that would make sense.

It's in the works. The whole crafting system is in the works. You should read a few of the stickied threads and use the search feature before posting this type of thing.

You mean like in the mods? I'm sure the devs never ever thought about it. I'm sure it's not being worked on at all.
