Anyone else completely bored with the standalone?

YES I know it’s an alpha for the millionth time!!!!!!!!

I’m looking for a sensible conversation around why the game is not boring at this point.

What do you do to keep the spice in your relationship with the standalone?

I for one am bored shitless and think unless a major patch by April fixes the loot many will stop playing.

Why can’t Dean release an updated progress report on the state of the Loot?

It’s a massive part of the game which is fucked.

Play with friends and communicate with random people, you get a different experience every time.

If you find it boring, just stop playing.

Go play some other games for a couple of weeks/months, then come back and see how far along DayZ has come.

There is no way it is going to be developed any faster just because you really, really want it. Things take time.

It's the apocalypse; you have to make your own entertainment. If you're bored run around on the coast for a while and see what happens. (Probably death)

It .... Doesn't have to be not boring.

I play the mod when I want the "Dayz experience" and then switch to the standalone when I want to. When I feel uninterested in the standalone... I do something else. It's a simple formula that can be applied to all forms of entertainment.

I find the mod more interesting because of the greater variety of equipment. I find the standalone a little more irritating because of the wall hack zombies.

I understand getting bored with the game. I've been in your boat before, and I'm sure I will again. Sometimes it's good to take a break for awhile and come back fresh.

In my case, I like to role play a bit and make up new characters.

I decided to become a medic with my current character. I've been hanging around the hospital in Berezino helping those in need. It's been...interesting.

So far I've helped a couple people with saline and food. Unfortunately I've already had to kill another. He came up on me with a revolver drawn. I tried talking to him, saying I was a medic, but alas...I had to put him down in the end.

So yeah...take a break or try something new. That's what I do.

I just had such high expectations for the game.

I think I need to take a break from the for a while. I just have a few questions and again these aren’t insults there just questions.

The standalone was made because the standard arma engine didn’t have the ability to realise Dean’s ambitions for the game so…..

  1. Why is the standalone more tasking on ones PC ? and this is with zero loot re-spawns and minimal zombies etc
  2. Why cant the updated engine / code manage loot re-spawns , isn’t that a step backwards.
  3. Why can’t the current system manage zombies?
  4. Why can’t the system manage animals?

The whole thing bar player animations / graphics seems like a step back 2 years I just don’t get it.

I just worry that im getting 30FPS yes on high I could turn it down but thats 30 FPS with very little in the game.

How is dean going to get it to run with loot , vehicles , zombies etc etc.

I think he’s dropped a bollock TBH.

These are valid questions and need more attention that it’s just an alpha.

They took the engine and deconstructed/reconstructed large portions of it, changes that in the long run will allow for something closer to their vision. They can use that new foundation, one prepped for the ideas they have in mind, to build something that would have been much more limited as just a mod. As this continues you will likely see performance both increase and dip as new features come in, such as with the memory leak issue and the vast improvements in server performance.

But that's really is the long and short of it. You bought an incomplete game that is still in testing.
You seem to have expectations of the Alpha that you would have of a finished product.
Right now the game is really just a skeleton, the alot core features aren't even finished.

The potential is there. It just takes time. They seem to be go going at break-neck speed with these updates.
Just be patient.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with taking a break if you're flustered!

Yeap, that's why I still clock time in skyrim, when I want a break for whatever reason, change it up.

edit: the experimental runs much smoother, and I could bump my graphics up a bit as well, all in good time, when this game is finished it will be epic.

When I get bored I switch to the regular servers, take off all my clothes and run around in third person peeking over every fence, corner and windows and tell people I can see them.  Then I run away giggling.
