INB4 getting moved to gallery section :)

People disable clouds and grass so they have an advantage so they see other players more easily, I say fuck them. I don't like looking at garbage that's why I try to keep everything maxed... BTW GTX 660Ti here.

What processor do you have?

I have a 4770K and a GTX 660TI both at stock clocks atm. I haven't been able to figure out how to config my video settings yet, but I recently realized that turning up objects to at least high makes trees and other foliage look way better. FPS has been fine but I'd like to max everything out.

Also, anti-aliasing (which I think is MSAA) seems to actually do something and I keep it on high, but "edge smoothing" doesn't seem to do jack beyond the first setting so I leave it off. Is "edge smoothing" supposed to be FXAA/anti-aliasing post?

Hello

You should do some searches Based on Arma2 gfx settings not just about DayZ.

The way some of the RV engine gfx settings work based on my own experiences and info gleamed from the webternet, Is that most of the settings we can alter if placed on or above high will determine if it uses GPU or CPU and getting the right balance of settings if your system is not a beast in both CPU and GPU can be a bit tricky and is difficult to balance depending on where your bottle neck is.

If I remember right everything except shadows on or above High will use GPU whereas shadows is the inverse.(could be wrong though) Below will tend to use your CPU more than your GPU.

Although I am going on old remembered stuff from Arma2 before they added in the new gfx elements into dayz.

Any way that info seemed to help me even out any fps issues I had in the past.

Hope that helps someone.

FXAA is a less obstrusive method to get rid of jaggies than the other anti-aliasing alternatives. Rather than smooth edges based on the 3D models themselves, FXAA attempts to smooth edges based on how they appear on screen as pixels. This achieves the same effect as other anti-aliasing methods with next to no hit in performance. It's exclusive to Nvidia

So sweet.. I can make it run at the maximum setting, but still not optimize well...

With AA very high and the "all tree + all grass" setting I've got some sexy waffle textures...

Beans given.

Because stating the obvious, when so few people have even bothered to see it = win anyway!

So many people INSTANTLY hop into disabling this and that "eye candy" feature, it sometimes makes me wonder if devs should just stop making beautiful games altogether...

It would be nice to get higher than 20-30 fps in the middle of nowhere with everything maxxed when I play much better looking games at a constant vsynced 60. The last time my fps was that low I was playing GW2 with 100 people around spamming full particle effects on max settings. With everything turned down i can get a consistant 60-90+ fps.

Add to this that designers keep making games like this that give advantages to players that keep their settings low. It's just like the old Darkfall where the shadow effects were great but if you were playing with them on you were just begging to be killed. There needs to be a set minimum on foliage and grass that you can't reduce. You can make it look like crap but it needs to be there, the same with the shadows. It might prevent some people from playing the game, but those people probably wouldn't have a very good time playing it on the lowest settings anyway.

I played for a couple weeks with max settings and it was alright, but after running at 60 fps there's no way i can go back to 20. I'm tired of the game looking like a soiled tissue when i run just so i can play smoothly. It's crap because the game does look really cool with the settings turned up. Hopefully they will optimize things but from what i've gathered since i bought the SA this is an arma engine problem and most likely not one that will be easlily remedied.
