Dropped items on ground stay there for how long?

I believe until a server restart

In mod they stayed there untill you walked away more then 200 meters from them or server restart.

 

Also if you logged out near them, they would stay there untill server restart.

 

I guess same is in standalone.

I know this because I spray disinfectant on any fruit I find, in case someone comes along and takes a bite. The fruit lasts until server reset. :(

As far as I have noticed its there until restart. On occasion I leave a backpack full of ammo and such when I decide what weapons I will stick with. I once died after I did that, went back to my stash and got it all back.
