willhelm 85 Posted February 14, 2014 Some people might be confused by the title, but it is actually very simple, i'll explain If we're talking about some sort of infectious toxin (the last of us kind of thing) then a hell of alot more will be possible with the game still be remaining "realistic". The second one is simply a scientific experiment gone wrong upon which a contagious infection has been released. Moderate amounts would be possible with this. But not much other than what we already have The last one would be a simple infection (the walking dead) which basically just kills the person, and awakens some of the brain that just causes them to be extremely violent and hurt anything in it's path. Pretty boring... The reaosn as to why i'm asking this is because if it was some sort of toxin that was creating through some sort of bug or unknown disease, then we could eventually impliment bloaters, or larger zombies etc etc, even crawlers and then the game may even have a kind of fallout atmosphere + the spores would be preventable via the use of gas masks, i,e military areas (NW, NE, Balota, etc etc) this would eliminate the instant thinking of "oh crap a guy has a gas mask... KILL IT WITH FIRE!!! (BAM goes the M4 spray and pray shots), it'd technically be killing two birds with one stone.
willhelm 85 Posted February 14, 2014 Btw, gas masks would spawn in normal civilian areas, like hospitals etc.
Karmaterror 982 Posted February 14, 2014 Well the devs say they are going after the 28 days later type. So its infected human beings, not people coming back to life after they die or anything. I don't know if I want to see...."mutated" stuff wandering round. I like that its just infected people, keeps it sort of believable :)
savini 587 Posted February 14, 2014 In my "Weapon Damage" poll someone mentioned that they were going for the "virus" style zombies. Personally I prefer the standard "undead" type, but hey...a zombie's a zombie. I'm not a fan of different infected types. I mean...if there was a fat guy that became a zombie then that's fine. I don't like the "boomer" or idea of specials ala L4D. I'd say keep it simple. That's just me though.
Westerburg 41 Posted February 14, 2014 the best zombie stories are always the ones where you aren't really sure where it came from or how it started. Sure, we all love 28 days later and the Walking dead and I am legend, but the truely great zombie myths never really explain it away. It just happened. The living dead series, best they could come up with was 'I guess there's no more room in hell...', The Revenant, they don't even bother to ask. Warm bodies, even the zombies don't know why they are zombies, Arrr starts to go into it at the beginning of the movie and says he's not sure how it got started. You don't always need an explanation of what kicked off the apocalypse, sometimes half the fun is wild speculation and the air of 'So, the dead are coming back to life, anything can happen at this point.' Kenny Kyle 138 Posted February 14, 2014 @rhodesyup. some special infected from l4d dont fit. but the normal infected and the hunter would be cool.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted February 14, 2014 The basics of 'The Virus' as laid down by Rocket. It does not kill or reanimate the dead. It makes the living go crazy/rabid. All players are Immune to the virus, so there's no chance of getting 'The Infection' from the zombies or players coming back/playing as zombies. The virus does not cause any sort of mutations, so there won't be any special zombies that spit venom or explode. The only reason one zombie might be bullet resistant is because it was a soldier and is wearing body armor and a helmet. I would think the only reason a zombie would blow up is because it was carrying a grenade or other explosive and the player shot the device (dunno if they plan to add that type of zombie, just using it as an example). As for the rest...well Rocket has hinted at it a bit, but is leaving some of the details vague. Mostly how the virus started, if it was man made or naturally occurring (there's a few RL diseases that could become a 'zombie virus' under the right conditions, such as Rabies if it became more infectious or airborne). It was said Rocket's brother, who's a virologist, wrote up a paper describing the virus and how it could be real, this may or may not make it into the game somehow (I'd love to see a copy of the paper for myself)
