I had a feeling that fist sprint got stealth nerfed or something too.

Good, it was an exploit and just plain stupid.

I'm curious as to why you though it was an exploit. I always thought of it like this:

1. Walking: Hold W with walk enabled (shift or double-shift).

2. Jogging: Hold W.

3. Running: Double-tap and hold W.

4. Sprinting: Double-tap and hold W with your fists up.

Now I will not argue against the notion that it might not have been working correctly, or that maybe the devs don't want it any more, but I wouldn't call it an exploit. When I go running and I want to get a sprint on I must use my arms because they work in tandem with your legs, so it seems to me like the devs were originally trying to replicate this. I will also not argue against the notion that it might have been over-powered, without any increased energy/hydration drain and without any form of stamina bar you could do it indefinitely, but this also applies to running and jogging.

When people run, they don't run with their hands held up in front of them in fists.  They do it the normal animation.  Clearly it was an exploit because it wasn't something intended, and thus removed.

When sprinting ("fist-running") worked in DayZ you didn't run with your fists in front of you, your fists turned to hands and looked like they do when you sprint. I agree with you that the implementation was dodgy but I am wondering why you think it was an exploit, "exploit" usually implies some form of cheating.

I think he is just trying to say It was never intended to work that way, hence some people knew about it, some didnt. In my eyes that is some sort of exploit? IDK just my 2 cents

I'm just trying to figure out how he means it when he says "exploit", I always figured most gamers use it as a synonym for a cheat (but not a literal cheat, like aim-bots).

Simply meaning 'exploiting an unintended side effect of programming issues'  Hiding under floors and shooting through walls are all exploits.  Just because it's a 'lesser' exploit doesn't make it any less an exploit.

Exploit - Using a system in a manner not intended by the designers of the game.

If it was not intended that people would run faster by doing a certain sequence of actions then it is an exploit.

I agree. Although it may have been a "minor" exploit, it was still an exploit by definition I suppose. I actually didn't know of fist running until a few weeks ago. I met some guy in game and I thought he was trolling me when he told me you run faster with fists up. But after a quick race he had me convinced, lol.

I'm glad it was fixed, I felt stupid coming in and out of a run with my firsts up. Plus it seemed too fast imo.

I don't think so, my friend went fists up while I was sprinting (Normal sprint) today, he was running faster than me.

Well at least I won't have to put my fists down to walk faster up a 5 degree incline anymore... woot.

It also led to you pulling out weapons in the "ready" stance, which got annoying with certain melee weapons such as the axe. The aiming is so wonky with the axes held up to your face that you have to take more time just to put it down that a zombie can get a hit or two in if you forget about it.

This is why I am not sure sprinting was an exploit, but we'll have to wait and see what the developers do instead (if they even bring it back).

Well, you could ask yourself, "Did I use a sequence of actions to gain an effect that it appears was not intended by those actions?" Double tapping the forward button triggers a sprint. Raising your fists which you do to use an item or fight and then double tapping forward caused you to sprint faster. That seems to be unintended ESPECIALLY when you consider raising your fist while walking/jogging makes you move SLOWER.

I already addressed this in an earlier post, but if you missed it I'll sum it up again: When I go out running and I want to put a sprint on I pump my arms as well as my legs, your limbs co-ordinate and I always assumed that this was simply the devs trying to go for an extra layer of realism. "Fist-running" in DayZ, while moving and not standing still, made your arm movements in front of you much more exaggerated just like a person sprinting.

Edit: I'll probably have to add my previous disclaimers again or we'll be going over that too. "Now I will not argue against the notion that it might not have been working correctly, or that maybe the devs don't want it any more, but I wouldn't call it an exploit."

Edit 2: How to Sprint.

So, when you go out running and want to put on a Sprint you pull both your fists up into a boxing position in front of your face? Uh huh... are you sure you don't start with them evenly at your sides so that as one moves up and forward the other goes up and back in unison? You know, like everyone else in the world?

That's not what I said or the argument I was making and you know it, but this is nothing new with you is it.

speculate that the devs were trying to simulate that aspect of sprinting by involving an arm movement, there aren't many ways to do this in DayZ and the closest thing is probably putting your fists up as if preparing to punch. If they have decided this isn't a good approach, or that they don't want sprinting in the game at all any more, I am not bothered if they remove it. I am only explaining why it made some sense and why I didn't see it as exploiting the game (as if exploiting a glitch or bug).

Edit: Going by our past conversations I am actually pretty sure you knew what I meant and felt like carrying on anyway, would I be right?
