Up Hills/Slopes

Recommended Posts

What are your guys' thoughts on the current animations for walking up a hill or any kind of a slope? Anyone know if they have mentioned anything about it yet? It gets quite annoying when you find yourself in a gun fight through some woods that have hills and get stuck slowly walking up a hill trying to pull back.

And before any smart ass comments arise, as they almost always do on these forums, keep in mind I simply do not give a shit about any negative opinions of yours about me or this thread.

Let's have a civil discussion. Discuss.

Should yes. But right now for some reason you maneuver up hills like you have a load in your pants.

Hopefully that gets sorted out soon.

Logically the character should run faster uphill, shouldn't it?

Downhill, yes, but not necessarily up hill. Still it should be faster than it is now. Surely someone that can sprint infinitely without negative effects like our characters should be able to go up a hill.

Yes, lets full out sprint zigzag up a hill with a 90 degree incline.

Technically it is not impossible. It doesn't necessarily have to be sprinting, but it should definitely not be as slow as it is now. Even the slightest inclines seem to slow the player down when it comes to moving up hill.

I don't agree, actually. I think the restriction on running up hill is fine - the problem is the infinite sprinting itself, not the enforced walking on steep slopes.

In fact, I'd say if you try to run down a steep hill, you should have an increased chance of tripping over and ending up at the bottom in a heap of broken bones and ruined equipment!

This is sarcasm, folks.  Just note that in the mod you also do this slow walk up slopes.  Yes you can sort of "trudge" up a steep incline and go at a quicker pace than currently in game, and maybe they'll do something about it later.

I like it. You have to think tactically and always keep your surroundings in the back of your mind. Plus I'd like to see anyone here sprint uphill with a mountain pack full of beans, ammo, soda, and an 8 pound hunk of steel and wood in your hands. :P

Running straight up dirt hills is pretty ridiculous. But Ive been forced to jog up slight inclines on the PAVEMENT because it stops me from sprinting.

Needs a slight increase, very slight though. Not that it's impossible to move up a steeper grade quickly with full kit, but it is very taxing and will burn out your calves very quickly. Hopefully once some sort of fatigue system is implemented we'll see this change, until then just switch weapons and run up any grade slope.

*edit

Forgot to mention, use w+a or d and you can mitigate some of the small inclines completely and keep a solid pace.

I'm not trying to cause anything you came at me, bro.  I commented on topic then I pointed out that you're looking for a discussion but only if the responses are ones you agree with.

Actual high sloped hills, sure, keep it the way it is. Those hills with a slight increase that still manage to slow you down, definitely needs to be fixed.

I see what you are saying and agree, but a lot of the time it's not that much of a slope that slows you down to begin with. I could understand something like going up one of the various mountains around the map being quite slow.

I'm not saying don't post if you don't agree. I stated it so those who feel to post smart ass comments that are always found around these forums. Someone always has something smart to post around here and am quite frankly getting sick of it.

Well, apart from I share the "WAT" regarding the idgas-attitute expressed in the first post:

The only thing that should be changed regarding uphill-movement is IMO, that -depending on the terrain -elevation- there should be a crouch/climbing animation which is forced on the player and which disallows holding weapons while crouching.

It is natural that you loose speed uphill and from a certain elevation on, you simply climb and would have to stop for e.g. engaging in a firefight.

This is basicly why you choose high groud from where you can escape when covering an area with a rifle.

Your choice to use the forums or not man.  Don't let people on the internet get to you and don't look for discussion if you can't handle all opinions and attitudes.  At least IMO.  Anyway I've contributed to this topic so I'll bounce.  Take care.

I believe his entire point is that even a slight grade increases slows you down to a crawl, and that's quite true. Actually having full kit and a weapon shouldered a slight grade will impede you, just not as drastically has it does in game right now.

Flat out trucking down a road then 3% grade increase = walking five steps...Dafuq?

Should I be able to sprint up a hill with a full pack on my back? No.

Should I be able to sprint for 10km straight with a full pack on my back? No.

If I'm fit enough to sprint forever with gear then I should be able to sprint up a mild hill. Either buff hill running or nerf regular running but it's idiotic that I can literally sprint without stopping for 30 minutes but I can't climb a 3% grade at any pace faster than a walk.

My friend uses a Joystick when hes plays (don't ask me how) but he runs straight up hills and down hills no problem.
