bioned 36 Posted February 13, 2014 we all know dayz values the realistic-ness (couldn't think of a better world) under normal circumstances, people have stashes of food stored at home I know no one went through the house before me because I was the only one in the town after server restart really, I would give credit for dayz being realistic if any of you (including rocket) knows any human being whos only food at home is a canned bean
oregonized 673 Posted February 13, 2014 I personally think too much food and drink spawns at the moment but I would definitely like to see a lot more clothing spawn.

Window Licker 504 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) I've found that the food goes a lot further since the last rework, not a great deal is required to survive and while I need to travel great distances before I become full, energized and healthy, I've found starting is less about grab a bag of food and head for the guns, I'm having to work a bit to keep myself fed unless I get lucky and the server is full of coast hugger's, then I'm only eating half the can and tossing it al la Ron Burgundy style. frosti 2165 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) under normal circumstances, people have stashes of food stored at home And under zombie apocalypse circumstances food, medical suplies and weapons are first things that people take away from homes, supermarkets, hospital, police station etc. Edited February 13, 2014 by Frosti
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted February 13, 2014 Realisticlly speaking....most people would be infected. Most of the food in their homes would propably go bad and rot.The food in refregirators (frozen) may last significantly more.Yet with no electricity, the ice is bound to melt, making those products go bad.Your only bet is to find canned food, but because more people would actually go for them too, your chances of finding some scarce canned goodswill be dropped dramatically.Yet in my opinion,i think the game offers more than enough. In reality of a real apocalypse i bet there won't be 1/3 of the refrenced food in the game. solodude23 649 Posted February 13, 2014 Yeah there are several houses/floors that spawn nothing at the moment, which I'd consider more of a bug, but it's still extremely easy to stay energized and hydrated imo.
Judopunch 523 Posted February 13, 2014 Did you know that the average grocery store (including walmart) only stocks enough food for about one week of sales? If the supply chain got disrupted the store would be empty in less than 2 days, there would be no 'massive storage of food' in homes because there is not enough supply. Now there are a few people who have emergency rations. But there is a two fold problem. They would first eat them, or someone would steal them, given any reasonable amount of time.In Dayz we wash up after some time, probably a month or so after the outbreak. Do you have enough food for you and your family to last an entire month? We could stretch it at my place with Ramen....
oregonized 673 Posted February 13, 2014 i disagree 90% of the houses that I go through (that hasnt been searched already) had none or one food itemYou are clearly wasting your time by searching the wrong buildings. Once you learn which buildings have a higher chance to spawn what you need, you will feel differently.

oregonized 673 Posted February 13, 2014 i just go into the first house i see and the rest aroundThat is your problem. You need to identify which houses have loot and which ones do not. It will take some time and experimentation but you will eventually figure out which buildings to enter and which ones to avoid.
naraga 45 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) I don't have any food stashed in my home. Also, get off the darn coast already and move inland! I usually end up with so much food I end up dropping most of it.you should be eating it not stashing it. OP food spawns are actually decent, but there is no dynamic loot system (yet) so everything gets cleaned asap after a server restart. antonioajc 500 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) Oh, I'm sorry, but what do panicked citizens take and hoard when a disease panic strikes? The houses you searched were probably already looted. Some people just like closing the doors on the building they just looted. Edited February 13, 2014 by AntonioAJC

pacific_coast 632 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) i want loot like a firefighters axe to only spawn in firestations. i want food to ONLY spawn in pubs, homes and supermarkets. i want medical to only spawn in hospitals and the clinic building. i want weapons to NEVER spawn in an office building, school, hotel, warehouse, farm, barn, ect ect ect i want realistic loot spawns but whatever man. alpha? worst2first 71 Posted February 13, 2014 The spawns are definitely a work in progress. Some houses never spawn anything and then I found six food items in one house today.

At least bandages and basic meds. I think civ weapons should spawn under some beds in houses or something too.
