mercules 1290 Posted February 12, 2014 They could have called it "Veteran" like the mod but people would have an issue with that as well. When you went from Regular setting to Veteran on specific thing was turned off by default, 3rd Person View. Expert turned still more off. I assume people having an issue with it being called "Hardcore" would have an issue with it being called "Expert" as well. I assume they wanted to move away from the same naming as the Mod/ARMA and so chose Hardcore.
mercules 1290 Posted February 12, 2014 What Ive described is what the vast majority these 1PP players are complaining about. What you described was entirely false. People who enjoy Hardcore servers do not play in 1PP while on Regular servers. We use 3PP just like everyone else. The difference is we feel the need to shower afterwards and just can't feel good about shooting someone as soon as they are facing away because our magical third eye let us observe them when they had no way to ever see us. Grimey Rick 3417 Posted February 12, 2014 Sometimes when I'm bored I fire up my regular character, go to NEAF and corner-peek kids sofa king hard in an attempt to convince more people to start playing hardcore. ;D
Dagwood 680 Posted February 12, 2014 In an effort to educate the masses, the guy that I play with joins regular servers and murders everyone he sees at point blank range and says "if you were on a first person server, this wouldn't have been so easy for me" and then runs off. I tell him he's a dick, but part of me hopes he's changing peoples' lives...

DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted February 12, 2014 I am playing on maxed out FoV. Why would you do that? If you use a 16:9 display then the very middle of the slider is correct, it shows as 1.3333333 horizontal in the .cfg files. Your game must look like a fish bowl view of the world.
Dagwood 680 Posted February 12, 2014 No, Mercules, it's like forcing hard alcohol down someone's throat to teach them the hazards of alcohol consumption. They would have figured it out for themselves; these saints are just speeding up the learning process.

I like to play really late at night when most normal folk are headed to bed; I find it very difficult to enjoy full servers. :T

I like to play really late at night when most normal folk are headed to bed; I find it very difficult to enjoy full servers. :T If I wasn't busy trying to sneak around and gather up all the supplies needed to construct some sort of base in DayZ: Epoch I might be more inclined to hop on more often, see if I could find you on a server with a mutually low ping. Thing is that in SA If I move from where I am then when my friends log in and want to play we spend the entire time trying to join up. Okay, maybe not the whole time... we get joined up, decide we are going to go to X, start running, and then my one friend needs to log off. So when I log in I tend to run to the nearby town, loot it, and log off in the location my friends are at. There needs to be more to do in SA... I know... Patience. deepfried 95 Posted February 12, 2014 The main difference between hardcore and regular is that jerks avoid hardcore because of the lack of 1pp. This is why I play exclusively on 3pp servers. Less jerks.
sidwulf 69 Posted February 12, 2014 I always play from first person on normal servers. I don't like feeling like I'm cheating in any way, and it is immersive. I feel guilty in third person.

mercules 1290 Posted February 12, 2014 Vehicles will solve a lot of those problems. Like even if we had bikes.. Yes and no. If implemented like in Epoch where you can mostly secure one, it can still be stolen or shot, then yes vehicles will solve the issue. If implemented like in Vanilla Mod then someone will simply find all the vehicles and drive them all to the same remote corner of the map and you will have to go find them any time you want to travel so they might as well NOT be on the map anyway. It can help, if you use a widescreen display the default setting is awful.
XUL92 10 Posted February 13, 2014 I tried playing hardcore and ended up with a headache after about 20mins due to the crap 1pp camera motion sickness Did you adjust your FOV? It can help, if you use a widescreen display the default setting is awful. Also turning camera bob and motion blur (think it's called rotation blur in settings) off helps alot. These are 2 options I cannot stand in games, and drive me crazy.
ploulaf 89 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) Can't get back on regular servers anymore. I love the tension forced 1PP creates.I miss the little vanity of watching your char move around, but that's it.AND, despite the saying, the game is actually easier to play 1PP. You aim better. looting in 3PP can get a lot awkward. Edited February 13, 2014 by ploulaf
Miquinei 81 Posted February 13, 2014 Imo likeI said in OP, hardcore is for sure a much better "DayZ experience" but gameplay-movement wise it is terrible, even with adjusted fov you feel dizzyfdom time to time and looting \ walking inside buldings feels very cluky as you get stuck in door ways or when going up stairs. After all some people get sick on boats, even cars. +1 for stuck in doors on the other hand. Edited February 13, 2014 by ploulaf
