Faith in Humanity tested

Recommended Posts

So I have been testing humanity's trust over the last few days on Chernerus.  It has been quite enlightening!

This is the scenario:

1.  I must make verbal contact with any player I meet before I am allowed to respond with fire.  The exception is if I am fired upon first.

2.  If I meet a friendly player who doesn’t have a gun, I ask them the following:

“Hello there, do you have a moment to assist me?”

If they do not have a mic, I wish them a good day after asking if they need anything.

If they are miced and agree, I ask them “I am testing the humanity of my fellow survivors.  I am going to offer you a firearm.  I only ask that you walk away when we are done and do not shoot me.”

So far, everyone has agreed.  The firearm I offer is my M4, which is fully kited including an ACOG and pristine.  I have a ruined 30 round magazine in it to start.  I also carry a B29 and a .357.

The first time I tossed the M4 to the ground, the player picked it up and stood awkwardly for several seconds before trying to shoot me with it.  I drew my .357 and killed him.

The second time, the player took the gun, then said that the magazine was ruined.  I gave him a new magazine but asked him not to load it in until he was out of eyeshot (we were in the woods behind the Factory north of Solichnya).  He picked it up, backed away, and immediately attempted to move behind a tree while still looking at me (I told him to turn around and move directly away back toward the gas station).  I shot him with my pistol.

The third player gratefully, but confusedly, accepted my M4.  He then immediately followed my directions and began moving towards the Lumber Yard in Berezino (we met at the grocery store and I asked him to head that way after picking up the gun).  I let him get about 40m before yelling to him to stop.  He halted and I told him that the magazine was ruined and gave him the three 60 round magazines I was carrying in my security case.  He emptied his pants, took the box, and thanked me before we parted company.

So not bad.  The third player I met was a nice fellow and we left in peace.  I got the idea to try this last week when I met a player at the construction yard.  I took a risk and gave him the sawed off I was carrying and 20 shells plus three speed loaders (I had too many guns).  He was very polite, thanked me, and we split up in peace.  I should point out that I met several players without mics, none of whom attacked me.

Honestly, gearing is fun and characters are reset fairly often, so it isn’t THAT great a risk to try things like this!

great idea. Shows you how many players are ungrateful and must take more than what they are offered and get killed.

You got a point, I will try the step one for a while.

We need to give humanity a chance.

Just keep in mind, you need to be willing to get shot!  I have found Hardcore servers are FAR more likely to have players who will just open fire when they see you, because often, you aren't within range to communicate by the time they see you.  And even when you are, they open fire anyway.

Probably because most Hardcore players have been playing long enough to shoot M4 armed players hanging out on the East Coast as a matter of course (after all, most are spawn killers).

I applaud your efforts and nice to see but I'm not sure the alpha world of DayZ is the best to test humanity's trust - jus sying

Or is it the perfect time?

With around 150 hours in, I have had my character killed by invisible zombies, clipping through walls and falling to my death, resets, and just regular murders.

When you can lose everything to a glitch, why not freshen up your experience with the only thing that really makes DayZ special, the players?
